On Saturday, i took a trip into Liverpool, and while I was there, decided that after the boring shopping, I'd visit the newly refurbished Liverpool Museum. Which has had £34 million spent on it.

Among the delights were:

[1] The Bug House - complete with Poecilotheria regalis and Lasiodora parahybana tarantulas (the latter being a whopping nine inches across - that's some spider!) and a display of live Leaf Cutter Ants stutting their stuff!

[2] The Dinosaur section - complete with life sized Megalosaurus skeleton (this beast was close to 30 feet long!)

[3] The Atrium Vault - suspended in the air was a replica of a skeleton of Quetzlcoatlus, the largest Pterosaur ever to fly, complete with a forty foot wingspan!

[4] The shop, which included such wonders as being able to by a Velociraptor glove puppet!

[5] The Aquarium - which had quite a few delights on display! Since this will be the principal area of interest, I left this till last. Featured fish included (in their own aquarium) assorted Lionfishes, namely the Fu Manchu Lionfish, two other Dendrochirus species and a Pterois antennata, and two stunning coral reef setups which included the following:

Tank 1 - Achilles Tangs (5 of them), Regal Tangs (5 of them), Longnosed Hawkfish (1), Scarlet Hawkfish (1), Tomato Clown (1), Humbug Damsels (8), possible Midas Blenny (1), Cleaner Wrasse (1), Australian Firefish Nemateleotris magnifica (2).

Tank 2 : Yellow Tangs (12), Blue Faced Angel (1), Flame Angel (1), Coral Beauty Angel (1), Koran Angel (1), Double Saddle Butterfly Fish (1), Pakistani Butterfly (1), Orange Anthias (12) and several pink Anthias whose species I couldn't identify but which were stunning to look at (8), Electric Blue Damsels (16), Cleaner Wrasse (1).

Both tanks were getting on for 2,000 gallons!

In Tank 2, the Cleaner Wrasse was observed regularly attending several of the other fishes, most notably the Blue Faced Angel, which seemed to be popping up at the 'cleaning station' simply because it liked the sensation - the look on its face was a picture to behold, almost as if it was a cat enjoying a good scritch behind the ears!

Photos will follow soon ...

yay - liverpool! Haven't been for ages, used to go as a kid all the time when my grandparents both lived up there!

Don't suppose you live in Crosby, Calil? And if so, have you ever been to Yungs (Yeungs) chippie?

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions

I'm in the other direction TC ... out past Speke ...

By the way, if you get chance to see the new Museum setup, particularly the aquarium, it's quite fun ...

Pics will follow in due course
