My parents are trying to install an motion detecting switch for the front porch. Following the instructions isn't working right. There are four wires coming out of the box: 1 bare (ground), 2 black (power), and 1 red (parrallel?). The new reciever switch has three wires coming out, 1 green (ground) and 2 black. How do we set this up?

Do we go one black on each and just pair the red one up with one?

I will say this again, dont do if if you dont know especially if it is with electricity. My son has installed and removed just as many. Some are so sensitve a bird flying past will set it off even a cat or a dog can activate them

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

How old is the house, and is it up to code? That would help us to figure out wire colors.

Bare wire is ground, no problem. It should go to the greeen on the switch.

There are a couple of configurations that could work.

Were the two black ones coming out of the box possibly tied together on the old switch? In which case the two black coming out of the box goes to one black on the new swtich.

Then the red would go to the other black on the new switch.
That would be my first guess and what I would try.

The other possibility
There could be Two swtiches that operate the light? and you are only replaceing one of them?

If that is the case, the switch you have will not work. You have a single and you need a three way switch.

Good luck, hope that helps.

I guess you got it koi. The house is BRAND NEW, so I would think it is up to code. It was built FOR my parents and they just moved in in Jan. It does have two switches so that is it. THANKS!!!
