A couple Green Anoles would probably work.

if you change species, keep in mind that you will probably not be able to use that tank for fish again. that said, i have always wanted to have a gecko, but i think 5g might be a touch too small for one.

A house gecko might work...

A green anole is a small Iguanid native to the Southeastern US, and is probably the easiest reptile to take care of. They are sometimes called "American Chameleons" due to their ability to change color from green to brown and back, but they are not related to true chameleons. They don't require UV lighting like most reptiles do, and they just eat crickets and other small insects.

A hamster might work, seeing as how they pretty much just sleep all day (and they can be really grumpy when you wake them up).

Pretty much any animals that are small enough to live in a five gallon are not going to be the "cuddly" type as they have a natural wariness of creatures hundreds of times their own size.

If you want something that doesn't mind being held, I would recommend some kind of Arthropod like a couple Emperor Scorpions, a Rose Hair Tarantula, or one of those African Giant Milipedes.

A hampster would work in a 5 gallon much easier than an anole or a gecko.
What kind of 5 gallon is it? An AGA with a screen top would be the best. I can't see a hampster doing well in a minibow because of the lack of ventalation.

I actually kept and bread teddy bear hampsters before (not that it's any great feat). I kept 1 grown female in a 10 gallon with her 12 babies. Then I gave away 10 babies and the mom and kept 2 males in the 10. They were fine even though one was missing a leg (randome hampster wheel accident). But I've seen them kept in thouse critter keepers which are like a galllon in size. a five gallon's perfect for one dwarf hampster.
