Wow, you're quite the witty one tonight, Mr James.

On an entirely separate note, I've seen Dotty Pepper once; waaaay back when. Also, Clark Anthony moderated one of our AL games.

I don't really remember. It was a few years ago when it happened... at least 6 years, because it was before we moved to England (and now we're back in the same house). That'd make me 13 or younger at the time...

Met all of the members of the band los lonely boys. At least I think that is the name of that.... They have a song that is played over and over on the radio "how far is heaven" or something similar. But was taking the ex-mother in law to a concert of theirs (she is a die hard fan) and talked to all of the band members and had the drummer compliment my hair etc. Nice guys. I was a "pretty lady"

Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn.

I've been to a couple of film premieres and been in the same cinema as a few stars ... I guess the most impressive being Princess Diana. (from the cheap seats she was only a couple of inches big!)

Also have UK Conservationist David Bellamy's autograph - I met him at London Zoo when I was about 6 years old - obviously made a lasting impression.

More recently, met Australia's own Craig Wing (rugby player) who was looking quite foxy!

Marty Brenneman (Reds announcer, famous for "This one belongs to the Reds!"... love that line!) frequents the pet store about 2 or 3 times a month, to get food for his pets. He's quite the animal lover. I was holding a bunny once when he walked in and he came over and started ooing and ahing over her.

Jorge and I have also met Marty's retired long time partner, Joe Nuxhall. He was also Reds pitcher. We've also met Jim Scott, a radio personality. They're all local celebrities, and they're all very nice and generous people.

I've met all the members of 98 Degrees too (if anyone remembers them)

I sat next to Connie Chung (first class) on a flight to Philadelphia where I had some business to conduct. She was NOT friendly.

I also was on a flight with Sylvester Stallone.

I have met Kim Zimmer and Robert Newman (Josh and Reva, The Guiding Light). They come to my hometown area every summer for a few weeks to do theatre work. I have had cocktails w/Kim. She is a very nice, down to earth person. Very beautiful and VERY tiny!!! I have also been on a flight with Robert Newman.

for any wrestling fans out there...

A while back, some friends and I went to see a live Smackdown show that was in Indianapolis. Very early the next morning, I had to drive my 2 roomates to the airport and we got there in time to see several of the wrestlers. We briefly spoke with Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho, Edge, D-Von Dudley, and Rico. These guys were all super nice though Brock was a bit shy. He was pretty new at the time though. We saw a whole bunch of others but didn't talk to them. Oh, I almost forgot, some friends of mine and I went to a bar in Louisville and met Johnny Stamboli, Chuck Palumbo and Nunzio (the Full Blooded Italians). Palumbo was very nice and talked to us for about 10 min. or so, Stamboli was really quite and stood there like a typical "tough guy" and Nunzio was, well, I think he'd already had a couple drinks.

Oh, and during my brief stint at Purdue, I was working part time at a local Burger King and I met Gene Keady in the drive thru. He was buying hamburgers for his dogs.

Back on topic.

Haven't encountered many 'celebrities' in the broadest sense of the word, but I've met one or two politicians. Although I can't say I was impressed by the majority of them, and that was regardless of political allegiance. Seems to be a feature of the job, that it attracts some complete Gumbys.

Can we get back on subject now please?

Encounters w/ celebs, not what you think of celebs or their ways of life.

I dont think i've met anyone that interests me. Apparently I was in a lift with an AFL football player that alot of people think is great, dont remember who or what team he played for but I was none the wiser at the time.

Before you criticize someone walk a mile in their shoes. That way you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Cup is getting quite frantic! I can be impressed by someone and consent to their achievements but I'm not necessarily celebrating them.
The given term is defined as one who is recognized for his or her achievements. The fact that you acknowledge the said humanitarian’s feats of philanthropy makes him a celebrity in your standpoint.

Approval and celebration are two different things.
Indeed they are, but celebration and acknowledgement go hand and hand. In fact, they are arguably synonymous.

Some of Oprah's deeds certainly impress me but I don't find the need to celebrate her.
Did I ask you to? What I was conveying was that many celebrities, at least more individuals than you are willing to accredit, are NOT spoiled brats.

Did you read this line in one of my posts? "apologies to some celebs who try to be normal". You see I haven't stereotyped all celebs at all! Your whole argument is invalid.
Okay, firstly, you affirmed that most celebrities were spoiled brats. That alone requests the label "stereotype". Try to be normal? So what you're declaring is that anyone who is recognized for his or her achievements is abnormal? Again, sounds like a stereotype to me.

I'm puzzled at how the community man and Oprah can be compared. Oprah is filthy rich and can give away 100 cars at a whim but at what effort.
Regardless (besides, you asked to compared them, anyways; therefore, one could say I'm riding YOUR wave). What I recall you ouncing was that Mr. Norm contributed to humanity far more than any celebrity could ever hope to (disregarding the recurring stereotyping), which, as logically follows, is false. Sure, she may be a multi millionaire— but that’s what makes her brand of charity so expansive, and thusly, capable of contributing more than the aforementioned man.

How many assistants does she have to do her "work"? The community man has no personal assistants to help him do his work and is required to make greater sacrifices than our generous millionaire. How much a person can do for another can not gauged simply by the dollar value of what they give away. I'd suggest you get married

I would think a good way to moderate the efficacy of one’s humanitarian abilities is to count the number of people he or she has affected. That alone, puts most celebrities ahead, as they have the means (note; not necessarily money), to disperse such compassion far more efficiently than the average Joe.

Once you do you'll see the plethora of magazines devoted to celebs and then you might read about the behaviour of alot of these celebs. See, I even married someone who loves "celebrities".
Could anything possibly be more factual than a 1.50 tabloid?

I have a number of hobbies in which those with "celebrity" status abound and I'm sorry but I just can't go Ga-ga over them. Yes they have achieved and good on 'em.
Again, no one asked you to; but other people are and will continue to do so. The fact that you recognize one's achievements only contributes to his or her celebratory status.

You say it's not logical for me to state that I dislike Casey's talent and her ability to be a good role model. Yes it is! it's called an opinion! Yes she appeals to the teen brigade but don't they allways know what's best?
Since when did opinions have to be logical? Teens posses more intelligence than you give them credit for . For purely hypothetical purposes, we will assume you were once a teenager, and during those days, your opinions were warped, wrong, and meant jack squat, amirite?

If you start at the top of this thread the main type of celebrity people are refering to as am I are the entertainment types. Cup, if you have the need to pin Bradd Pitt and others over your bedroom wall, great, go for it, but I won't be too soon.
Way not to be a troll, James. . I personally could not care less which “brand” of celebrity you were referring to: a stereotype is a stereotype, and a celebrity is a celebrity. The fact of the matter is that you attacked them as a whole, not an individual (well, you accomplished that, too). James, if you have the need to make fun of others in an attempt to get a point across (which I assure you, is not), great, go for it, but I won't be too soon.

Same as Meriadoc...I could walk into a celeb and not even know it. my wife can pick them from a mile off! Maybe it's a cultural thing and gaining "celebrity" is at the top of the list for many of our U.S. friends?

yeah, its called RADIO

anyway, i've met my fair share of sports celebrities, bands and whatever.

I just have no interest in them. I could pretty much walk down the street and not who anyone is

Heck, Ross Perot himself walked into my store, I served him, and everybody said to me 'do you know who that is?'

I could truthfully answer 'no'

I really just have little interest in celebrities. In fact, I feel sorry for the majority of them because of all the attention they get. But then, I'm a very private person.
