OK it is definately summertime here, and incase you didn't notice the heat, or the increase in the electric bill...I've noticed the fleas have become a problem]:|

So far I'm bathing both Cleo (the cat) and Stanley (the dog) each 2-3 times a week, in Adam's Flea and Tick shampoo...once a week fine...but 2-3 times a week? On the last bath Stanley climbed in with me while I was trying to take a bath, he was so desperate

I've also sprinkled salt all over the floors to help dry out the fleas and eggs...

And today before I left I sprayed the Adam's Flea control (guaranteed to rid fleas for 210 days? along with ticks, ants, roaches, spiders, and other creepy crawlies)

And stanley has been bathed again today with Control flea and tick stuffes, and I'll do drops tonight

What else can I do? I'm sick of fleas!!!!

Do you have access to vet-prescribed medications like Advantage? Both our cats and our dog use Advantage, and they have never had a problem with fleas or ticks (even when running around in the forest of in fields).

I'm sure I could get it, but it means a visit to the vet that I can't afford, especially if i have to take them both in...doesn't want to imagine the 15 min drive with both cat and dog in front seat with me trying to drive stick Is there a way to get it without taking them to the vet? I had used it at one point, and was happy...and how about getting rid of it the apartment, I feel as though I need a flea bath myself these days]:|]:|]:|

Well we just call up the vet and say we need some advantage and then go pick it up without the pets. I thought advantage didn't require a prescription and you could get it from petstores? I know you can order it online. For the carpets I use http://www.natlallergy.com/allergy_relief/1153/dustmitex-dustmite-and-flea-control-by-ecology-works.html but both of us also have an allergy to dustmites so there might be something cheaper for just fleas. It does work great though and only needs to be sprayed on twice a year.

I buy the Advantage at the local prt store. You should be able to buy it over the counter at the Vets but it could be a little bit dearer.

If possible try to wet the outside areas and under the house lime can be used.

OK, the reason you are bathing the cats 2-3 times a week is because only 5% of your total flea population is on your pets, the rest is in the environment. you just bath em and with those old style treatments, the fleas hop right back on.

3 ged approach.

#1 - CAPSTAR tablets. give one to each animal as these kill all adult fleas on the creature within ours. these arer not a long term thing, they are simply to make a dent in the population.

#2 - Frontline or Advantage. These will give you 2-3 weeks of peace even if your house is heavily infested, which is pretty impressive.

#3 - Fido's Flea Bombs or something similar. Seal up the tanks and blast the house (and under the house if you have floorboards)

If you do all that within 2 days, you should have it pretty well under control.

Without doing the house, you won't ever be flea-free, but the spot-on flea treatments should at least give your guys some relief

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats indoors. I haven't had fleas for years, but take precautions anyway. I order online at www.fleaclub.com. They are much cheaper than the vet. The larger the order, the bigger the savings. I order for family and friends at the same time I place my order. Shipping is a little high, but delivery is very quick. I think bathing your animals that often is going to cause skin and coat problems, especially if you are using chemical soap, not to mention drying their skin out that they scratch incessently.

I thought you were going to say you had fleas. I had fleas once, Mom thought it was chicken pox (got that a couple summers later).

You probably have a lot of fleas in your house. I would get Advantage or similar drops from your pet store (I know Petco carries them because we had them when I worked there). There are also lots of products at your pet store that can help get rid of fleas in your home. Those will get rid of the infestation and keep you from picking fleas up (not fun, kinda itchy), and the Advantage will help keep pets that go outdoors from bringing them in, as well as kill the fleas on your pets. I wish they had that stuff for people...

Frontline Plus is now available in pet stores without going to the vet. A feline 3 month supply will run you about $40, and Stanley is a pug, correct? If I recall correctly he is, so that'll be abut $40 for 3 months as well. When we have our monthly sale at work it's around $10-20 off, depending on the dosage you need. Heidi, PM me and I'll see if I can help you out

There are 3 basic and essential steps when it comes to flea control. In order, they are treat, rid, prevent. First you need to treat your animals. They need the fleas off of them (flea and tick shampoo), and they need a soothing oatmeal and aloe bath (flea bites are so itchy!). They also need to be rid of the eggs that have been laid in their coats. This is where Adavantage/Frontline Plus/etc come in. Next, you need to treat your home. There are flea eggs in your carpet, thus your reocurring problem. There are pet safe bombs, carpet shampoos, sprays, etc. After those 2 steps, you need to keep an eye out to make sure the fleas can't make a comeback. Keep treating your pets, even if all signs of the fleas are gone. Maybe use flea collars. Use a flea comb to look for signs of them. Keep your guard up.

Whew! Who would've thought I'd actually get to use the info from the seminar work made me attend?

HTH

OK so how would i seal the tanks up nice and tight? I'm thinking lots and lots of saran wrap? would i need to wrap up the airpumps, or what do i do with them? The bombs would be good because they would get rid of all the little pestsof course would i need to try and seal off the front door somehow there is a small crack between the bottom of the door and well, the flooroh the joys of my apartment complex:%)

And dani check your yahoo messenger...thanks ya'll for all the replies, last night was better...stanley wasn't digging, and cleo wasn't digging (yes, stanley is a pug, usually a very heavy pug, this summer and age have got him down to about 20 lbs not his normal 30 lbs) I will respray the livingroom and kitchen again tonight, bedroom and bathroom tomorrow...here's hoping...and all else fails payday is Thursday I'll be at petsmart...heidi

Frontline always made our cats sick. No matter where we put the flea medicine they manage to get some in their mouth and with the frontline they'd be throwing up and very uncomfortable. The advantage has never had that problem. My dog is very allergic to fleas and will start chewing holes in his sides if he comes in contact with 1 flea. Frontline didn't make a difference on him and he now gets advantage every 1-2months. When I was little our whole house and yard were infested with fleas. No matter how many flea bombs, carpet sprays, and flea medicines my mom used the fleas just kept coming back. It was so bad I could feel them jumping on and off my legs when I walked across the floor and it would be like that within a few weeks of using a flea bomb. I refused to come out of my room once cause if I got off the bed they'd start jumping on me. Even after we moved and there were no pets the new owners complained about fleas for months. We even got taken to court over it. I would suggest if you are going to go all out that you also spray the yard. My dad used painters plastic and tape as well as some aquarium silicone to seal up his tanks.
