FishProfiles.com Redesign Input & Submissions | |
Adam Administrator Posts: 1090 Registered: 25-Jul-2000 | I'd like to make some cosmetic alterations to the look of FishProfiles.com. As I lack any artistic skills and I'm not exactly sure how I want the site to look I'd like some input and submissions on what our members would like to see in a redesign. My thoughts are to keep the blue fish logo, but everything else is fair game. Comments and mock-up images are welcome to be posted here, or if you would like to PM or email me with a submission that is fine too. |

Some just simple as choosing between two designs or even as complex as picking the color scheme yourself (like background color, text color, link color, so on and so on forth). Just my $0.02 |

Do PM me if you need any help with the graphics. Bleeder's Forum http://silentlucidity.s10.forumsplace.com |

It looked pretty cool. It was like rainbowfish or something. The bubbles now look pretty weird. The reflections on them are all pointing different ways which prevents any sort of 3D effect from occuring. I think the site looks kind of sterile now because it's all white. I think back when the site was yellow it felt better.. There were more People back then. I think if you had like photographs of fish or something like there used to be that would be awesome. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

Adam Administrator Posts: 1090 Registered: 25-Jul-2000 | I'm trying some pastel blue just to see how I like it. If anyone has any submissions for a repeating image across the top where the bubbles are I'd be happy to see them. I suck at graphics... I've been trying stuff all day but nothing looks right. |

Maybe run a monthly contest of fish pic's where the winners photo becomes the home page background? I think the menu's and nav bars are pretty ordinary on this site also. At least to me, the most used bit of the site is the forum, and it's got one of the worst navigation setups of any forum i use. Feel free to PM me if you want me to be more specific, and i'll drop you a list of sites you might like to 'reference' and a few tips that i think work for navigation at least. Oh, otherwise... the site's finctionality is fine. Big ups for your hard work to date |

It's only a quick and dirty example of what is possible, but I'm sure that there are people here on the Board with spectacular planted aquaria that they'd be happy to see immortalised - Little_Fish's huge Trigonostigma espei shoal strikes me as an obvious candidate for this treatment ... Here's the watermark I created: |

crazyred Fish Addict LAZY and I don't care :D Posts: 575 Kudos: 360 Votes: 293 Registered: 26-Aug-2005 | This suggestion doesn't have much to do with the design aspect of the site, but getting all the articles back up would help. It's been 8 months since the site re-do and there are still no articles. I submitted one back in November or December and still haven't seen hide nor hair of it. Maybe it wasn't up to par for this site......I don't know, but seeing that there are currently NO articles whatsoever I somehow doubt it. Just a thought. "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder." |

Personally the bubbles have never done much for me and if they went away totally it wouldn't hurt my feelings. I think they remind me too much of the old Lawrence Welk program. Jim |

BlackNeonFerret Enthusiast Posts: 281 Kudos: 137 Votes: 30 Registered: 18-Jan-2006 | I agree with using pictures of our own fish on the site. Also, is it really necassary for EVERYTHING to be blue??? I mean, blue is the traditionaly colour, but water's made of anything from green, purple, turquoise, brown, yellow....... I'm not saying to go crazy, but it would help make this site stand out from all the others. |

tiny_clanger Fish Guru Posts: 2563 Kudos: 571 Votes: 12 Registered: 17-Sep-2002 | I liked the idea of letting people choose how they wish to view the forum in terms of colours, etc. The premie colours are not particularly accessible to people with visual or some learning disabilities and changing them from the browser (Firefox) causes the site to format oddly. edit - and I think you should get rid of the quiz, the answers are so so subjective ------------------------------------------------- I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions |
