Fish are pets for when you can't have *real* pet... myth? | |
wish-ga Mega Fish Dial 1800-Positive-Posts Posts: 1198 Kudos: 640 Registered: 07-Aug-2001 | There is a bit of a feeling in society that fish are *settling* when you can't get a real pet. Maybe this is true... but methinks not... in this poll "apt" is short for apartment and also means: unit/townhouse/duplex/dorm when there is no garden ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

Natalie Ultimate Fish Guru Apolay Wayyioy Posts: 4499 Kudos: 3730 Votes: 348 Registered: 01-Feb-2003 | I live in a dorm right now, so I can only have fish in a ten gallon tank. Back home I have my cats, dog, rabbit, snakes, and more fish. I don't consider my situation to be "settling for fish", since I'd have fish even if I could have other pets too. It's more like "settling for just fish". That said, I don't really consider fish to be pets in the same way that a cat is a pet, though... They aren't really interactive and they don't give me companionship. So right now in my dorm, I have fish but I don't really have any "pets". I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

Fish now and then are a better pet anyway. main reason, they are ALOT less destructive to your furniture than cats or dogs... at least mine are Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

If I could, I would have my own little zoo. Heck, I almost do what with the dog, 2 cats, a dwarf hamster, and a 55, 29, and 2 10's (one with an ACF) and several betta tanks both home & work. My next pet to get is a mini-lop bunny!!! "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder." |

"What do you mean I cant keep a goldfish in a bowl!?" After buying a house my parents got us kitties.... then the kitties gave us more kitties . Once I bought my own house I got fish first, then years later I adopted two cats from a friend of my mothers that was moving. And now I also have a husband....do they count . ^_^ |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | Right now I live in an apartment. I have a horse stable a town away where we are moving to a house hopefully this spring. I have 8 horses there. In the apartment we have 7 guinea pigs, 2 degus, and 2gerbils. My 2hamsters and my duprasi just passed away recently. I had other pets long before I had fish. My grandma had horses and I was sitting on my mom's old pony before I could walk. We've also had at least 1 guinea pig at any time during my life since my aunt got my sister and I a pair of them when I was only about 7years old. Fish are just another pet like all the others. In the future I also want button quail, guinea fowl, some type of snake, goats... I could probably go on all day. There are tons of interesting pets out there. My Panda Corys provide me with more entertainment than most humans. So far in my experience that holds true for all animals whether they are aquatic or furry. |

tiny_clanger Fish Guru Posts: 2563 Kudos: 571 Votes: 12 Registered: 17-Sep-2002 | I live in a flat, well, it's my parent's flat so I guess for me it could be defined as a bedsit and I've only ever had fish (and shrimps and a frog!!). I'd like guinea pigs one day, but my boyfriend will only have them if we rescue them, not just go out and buy them. ------------------------------------------------- I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions |
