This really makes me sad... there have been several accidents in Canada in the past 10 years at airshows. Growing up on a Armed Forces base and being around airshows all my life I really think they need to do away with them for safety purposes.

I completely disagree with you L_B. If you're gonna go, you're gonna go. You can never take all the risk away from life, so better let some people have some fun before they die. It's like people saying they wont get public transport again after the london incident. Tis stupid!

So long as people dont go out there and fly with the aim of committing suicide, then they might as well carry on, and people might as well carry on watching them. After all, they're much more likely to die on the journey home! And better to die doing something you love than to be blown up by some complete idiot who wasnt even together enough to get his bomb to the right location, or some stupid git who decided that he had to have another beer down the pub "just to be social" before getting into his car and driving home.

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions

It is okay that you disagree ... but for entertainment, taking the chance of audience and participants being hurt or killed just for a show.... imo is a waste of life.

Don't like planes crashing into you? Don't go to air shows.

A fellow military aviation enthusiast was at the Fairford International Air Tattoo in 1993 when two MiG-29 Fulcrum supersonic jet fighters collided during a display. To everyone's amazement, the pilot of one of the aircraft calmly landed after ejecting (and remained standing on touchdown!), looked around, shrugged his shoulders, then lit a cigarette. I suppose when you've just had an escape like that, you're not too concerned about the side effects of tobacco

Some photos can be found here. That was quite a scary moment.

this was taken a split second after impact by another member of the audience on the ground. The crew walked away from this, believe it or not.

As for me, I live right under the flight path for all the EasyJet 737s doing the Ke Sahn landing bit at Liverpool Airport. Only takes one of them to experience an engine malfunction at the wrong moment and hey presto, I'm digging bits of 737 engine cowling out of my living room. Plus we had a brace of military jets using the airport as a stopover point en route to Kosovo, including fully laden Tornado bombers. Don't fancy having one of them park in my front window at 600 mph either, but usually, the maintenance people can be trusted to keep them airworthy and the pilots know what they're doing. The RAF tends not to let untrained people loose on these things

Put it in perspective, even if you go to air shows, your chance of being hit by a crashing aircraft is roughly on a par with being struck by lightning. In fact, you're probably more likely to be fried in a thunderstorm if you're caught in the open than hit by something like this. Most of us accept far greater levels of risk when we fire up our cars. Imagine the furore that would ensue if drivers were told they'd only be let loose on the roads after three years' worth of lessons!

aye, but life gets wasted every day. Better that people enjoy it before it happens.
