I'm not a snake "lover" persay, but I see my fair share of them at my LFS. The "jungle corn snake" does not look like an elaphe species; the head shape is different from your usual corn.

EDIT: Speaking of which, I see many of those snakes that cory posted in the valley down by the house (the second picture). I always assumed they were some sort of garter snake X[.

Robby,

"Below, an anaconda is constricting the life from a cayman, (a tropical American
crocodilian of the genus Caiman and related genera."

With their poor eyesight and hearing taking a full grown croc would be very hard, IMHO. I wouldnt be surprised if they took babies and juvies.

I'll do graffiti,

Natalie,

What Tim said.

Really? Doesn't look anything like my banded one except for the face? I didn't know California Kingsnakes were exported/bred commercially.

Yours actually looks like a cross between the banded and the striped varieties, sort of like a Jungle "Corn".

Here is mine (caught a few miles from my house)...

Here is what the striped variety looks like...

Craziness...

Wow, they do look very similar!

The only difference I can see is on mine, her bands dont really go all the way around. This may change as she grows, but right now her belly is very cream colored with the darker color on top, it's almost like a line of perfect division. I can try to get a better picture up sometime today.

-Ferret

EDIT:

Okay. Got some new pics. Maybe this will help a bit.

And...

>.<

That is a beautiful snake.

That's because they are only half Elaphe. The other half is Lampropeltis. Not only are they hybrids, but they are hybrids between different genera (]:|). "Jungle Corns" are hybrids between Cornsnakes (Elaphe guttata, can't remember which variety), and I believe California Kingsnakes (Lampropeltis getula californiae).

With most snakes, including kingsnakes, the tail in the male is longer and thicker. This can be hard to tell if you don't have both a male and female animal to compare, though.

The best way to sex it is to take it to a vet to be probed.

I like best ummmmmmmmmmmmmm..... the one that likes people to hold it and lets them touch it. The most cuddly snake that will wrap and sit is my fave.

Ferret, I love your pet. Is it hard to care for? I have never met anyone with a pet snake.

Three words: Kenyan Sand Boa.

Not only are they pretty much the cutest snakes in the world, but the maximum size for males is only 18" (the females can get up to 30" though).

Wish-ga,

Nope! Not at all, she's a sweetie really.

Since she's young, she's just got a small tank with a LOCKING cover and a heat lamp. I keep her water dish filled and she's got some wood hideaway things in there. All stuff commonly available at the LPS. I feed her frozen pinkies once or twice a week, give her some attention, and that's about it really.

Snakes make great pets, and prove to people that they aren't slimy or creepy at all.

Natalie and Timmy both have snakes, just ask them.

One of my personal favorites is not on there... the Puff Adder. I am also a big fan of most any rattlesnake... Southern Pacifics might lead that list.
