my mom and dad had fishtanks all of thier lives, and they like them, so i lucked out. All i have to do is take care of them, and i can have them. My parents help feed them and stuff too though, because i have a really busy schedule.

Well I keep 2 in my room, and 2 in the dining room. Make them look presentable and it stays, if looks ugly my parents will tell me off and tell me to get rid of it. Thats why I had to redo my tanks in my room.

If they look good, parents would love them.

My parents gave up. Of course, I'm a bit older than some who have the same problem. *shrugs*

I've got the twenty long, twelve gallon, ten gallon, five gallon, 6 x two gallon, 4 x one gallon and a 1/2 gallon java fern nano. My dad doesn't know about most of the tanks, my mom generally ignores the fact.

~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~

Clownygirl that's too funny (howz the crochet?)

I am lucky my mum let me have a 4ft tank (I didn't push it any further and I don't have mts). She will miss my fish when I move in a few weeks but she will LOVE the space even more I suspect!

If you were running around the streets selling drugs and pushing old people into traffic you wouldn't even care if they said no to you.
If anything, they'd be encouraging you to get more tanks to keep you occupied and out of juvie..

well, goal-setting, making a point of saying that you think that such and such will do this for your fish, and that you have worked it out and you should be able to afford it on day X etc. (shows goal-setting, persistance, determination, budgetting, etc.)

Play up the science angle, with the cycling etc. Maybe research other types of setup and the chemical differences etc, and chuck out a hypothesis every now and again, and make mention on how you'd like to test it (look mum, I'm doing schoolwork by choice!)

How do you do it? I have one 20 gallon long and a 2.5 gallon. Even now my mom thinks that this is too much and wants me to combine the two. I, on the other hand, am looking at the 5 gallon minibow that is in my uncle's basement becasue I had to tear it down.

How do you other younger people get your parents to allow you to have all those tanks?

And how would you know that? Considering you live on the other side of the globe, I'd find it very alarming if you knew what I do with my spare time...

remind her that having her son home messing with tanks is better than a son who is hanging about the streets getting into trouble.

First of all, sorry about misspelling have in the title. It makes the whole thread look grossly unprofessional.

As far as filling up my room with tanks, this is out of the question. My mom INSISTS that my room (actually my brother's and my room) looks attractive (and I don’t mind either). Although, attractive for her means “fish-free”

Breeding is a good idea. I’m looking to get a harem of apistos, which would fetch a nice price if I sold them.

This post got me thinking:
I made them look very attractive, I threw in a lot of talk about saving up, aiming for goals, responsibility and all that stuff, AND i let my parents help choose the fish etc

I'd like to hear you elaborate on the aiming for goals, etc. speech. This could work considering I got a full scholarship to my high school. The fish idea sounds ingenious. I know my mom loves yo yo loaches, honey gouramis, and cherry barbs. Consequently, I love wild type betas. I smell an Asian biotope.

Here’s my plan:
I finish up my 20 gallon long (need to do a little bit more planting and a lot more stocking). Then I put on some music and let the apistos “do their thang”. Now I need a tank to raise the fry in... I can ramble about how I’m responsible and have goals. Since my tank is a work of art, my mom will have no problem with another. And for the finishing touch, she can pick the fish!
