He likes guitars...and computers...and clothes... (the complete opposite of me other than the computer bit)

I want something pretty classy though; what do you think about engraved cufflinks?

If he plays electric guitar you could get him a nice amp, distortion pedal, waah waah pedal ( not sure if it's actually called that, but thats how i know it by), or something like that, depending on what kind of music he likes.

One year seems rather soon for $150 to me....then again we know my relationship experience ! .
I like the idea of something personal, but not for a one year anniversary.

What about just a shopping trip to his favorite guitar store?

The cuff links sound pretty cool but will he use them???

What about a cute picture in a nice frame of you both??? Something to put next to his bed and go to sleep next too and wake up next too??? I would be thinking something a little less but it is up too you on that tho.

If he is of drinking age what about a hip flask?? Or some nice drinking glasses?

Or just a CD, DVD.

My recommendation would be to get a necklace and have the central piece engraved with something of significance. Maybe get a certain symbol that has an inside meaning, then put your initials on the back of it or something. I'd get more use out of a necklace than cufflinks, it's more meaningful than a shirt, and if I already have a watch I like, I wouldn't want to wear the new one (most likely)...

EDIT:Also, this probably has to be one of the first threads I've ever seen where 1)the initial post is deleted, and (most importantly), 2)everyone STILL understands the question and can provide solutions...
