Couple things since this thread is still running

1. There is a drink closely related to but is a lot stronger than Tequila, it's made out the boonies of west texas, north mexico area, as well as others i'm sure, can't think of the name off hand, but not only will it knock you for a loop, it's said to run vehicles if you were stupid enough not to get gas in Alpine, thinking oh there's a gas station just down the road, and i've got a 1/4 of a tank (yeah right, living in west texas down in the Big Bend you learn early if you have less than 1/2 a tank you better gas up if you are going anywhere but in townfair warning if you ever head out that wayleaving Ft. Stockton to go anywhere get gas, don't take the chance!!! So I'm sure that stuff would be quite flammable. the one drink i had was awful

2. I'm trying to figure out why he caught fire because he spilt it on his shirt? Dang it did I miss something? I'm assuming it was lit when he drank it and that is how the fire spread? Thinks twice about trying anything new when she goes out again

just me

And only a complete idiot would drink methylated spirits

Aboriginals drink methylated spirits regularly.
You can even buy it refrigerated up north..

Are you implying that they are complete idiots?

Isn't sambuca usually dilluted when dranken lit?

Btw, Cass, anything in the eighties, proofwise, is far too volatile for drinking straight up, flambe.

I have drank a shot of flaming sambucca before at a mates bachellor party. We all did it. I just dipped my lip in, tilted my head back and sucked it down as fast as I could. The flame lit my lip for a second, but I rubbed that out. The flame stayed in the glass.

Then my mate came at me with another and spilled it over my hand! it didnt hurt that much....being drunk helps. I chased him with my firehand before it started to hurt (which was 2 seconds).

what I am wondering is why the flame is yellow when it comes out of his mouth.

If you look carefully you can see him spill some of the drink down his cheek an onto his shirt - that's what made him catch on fire.

There are a couple main ways people are supposed to take shots like that, but both ways you have to do it really fast (not slow like the guy in the picture is doing). First, some people actually extinguish the flame in their mouths, much like the way you lick your fingers and extinguish a candle. It is important to take the shot and swallow it very fast with this method (which is why a lot of "beginners" don't do it), so the flame doesn't stay put on any part of your mouth for a significant amount of time. The second way is to sort of drink "around" the flame, because as you tilt the cup to your lips and the the back of the glass rises, the fire will rise to burn on the alcohol that is still in the back of the cup.

This guy didn't use either of those methods.

Er, hang on ... what was this guy drinking? Nitromethane dragster fuel? I can't recall seeing anyone explode like that from the regular run of alcoholic drinks, and as for Sambuca (which is used in Italian restaurants to create the little flame on top of a Knickerbocker Glory ice cream) well I don't know anyone in their right mind who would drink neat Sambuca ...

A circus fire-eater usually has to resort to some very flammable liquid in order to be able to spit fire in the circus ring - typically meths. And only a complete idiot would drink methylated spirits, because the methanol content is fairly steep. Drink that over a period of time and you start off going blind, followed by going mad, then you die a lingering and painful death from liver failure. Which is a pretty good reason for the circus fire eater to make sure all the meths has been well and truly spat out.

I like the fact that the other guy tried to put out the flames with beer.....not only do I think that wouldn't work, but it's definitely a party foul.
