Ok, following on from the "shave it or leave it" thread... my head hurts!

I just got back from getting a trim. The woman was getting knots out with one of those fine toothed combs, and every 2 mins the knots would be back in there! she must've brushed my hair at least 6 times during the trim.

She was also complaining that it was breaking very easily.

Now, apart from feeling unloved by this hairdresser (who tried calling me a-baay) and having a rather sore head, I NEED HELP.

I can't use much conditioner because my hair is superfine and just turns into a flat silky mess.
I can't use hefty silicone sprays because it hangs like an oil spill.
I can't use something I have to wash out daily as if i was my hair more frequently than every 2nd day, i get a dry scalp and I snow.

HELP? anyone?

(hair last night before trim)

there's a product called hair mayonnaise, it *might* work for you...

Shave it! (I'm just kidding). . .

Try a hot oil treatment and there is a product by Phat Hair (i think that's the name... it's similar to that if that's not it) that is a conditioner, thickener in one. Might be worth trying.

As for that lady. . .want me to come beat her up? ]

Good Luck,

'kay you guys are helpful but you are also american. We have different brands here.

Calla what about rinsing your hair with a very dilute mixture of an essential oil (1 drop in 2 litres)? Or you could do a 3month trial of taking a vitamin supplement and see if it helps. You would have to research what's appropriate.

That aside....do YOU think your hair snaps and is dry? it doesn't seem it. Sounds like a *mean* hairdresser talking about someone's hair as though it is an inanimate object is not nice they should cover that at salon school! Hair assessment etiquette 101...I could run it for them.

Well see, I don't comb it, I use a brush, and I don't have a breakage problem normally. I don't normally yank at it either way...
(she was better than the woman who gouged all the skin off my scalp and then backed away in disgust as she had managed to dislodge every piece of skin there. Duh. There is only so much I can do guys, if you go out of your way to give me dandruff, you can just get over it! That woman was apalling, I never went back there )

I only clip it up in those claw things, as it does get a bit moody if I use elastics on it often.

I think i've seen the Phat products... I haven't seen the mayo, but I don't often spend long in the beauty section, so i'll have a good scout around.

Time for a bit of pampering this year I think try out the whole "look good feel good" thing

I'll get an "after" shot tonight

Well I'm no expert but shame on her for combing your hair that way; doing so can cause a lot more damage At least you get yours trimmed...mine is almost halfway down my back & I can't remember the last time I had a trim

Maybe try a clarifying shampoo occasionally, once a week or so, followed by a good conditioner, one that's labelled 'deep fortifying' or 'treats damage'. They generally don't cause build-up on your hair that results in looking like a flathead

I use claw clips too, and instead of elastics you might want to try scrunchies...much kinder on the hair & scalp.

I think you have very pretty hair btw

edit: I also found a product that's called a 'lightweight conditioning spray', it also acts as a detangler and isn't rinsed out. Maybe you could find something like that as well.

Tea tree oil. :88) It's good for dry scalp and flakes and also makes your hair nice and shiny.

You should be able to get that there?

Melafix is basically the same thing.

Also get the right conditioner. I have a LOT of very fine hair, most conditioners will weigh it down but some have been OK.

calla, mine is terribly fine as well...I take a good deep conditioner (I like pantine) but not straight from the bottle, I've always watered mine down, it's too thick otherwise...and i've been adding about a capful of melafix to a bottle of the 1/2 water, 1/2 conditioner, and it seems to help a lot Best of luck, I'm still needing to do something with my head...heidi

Your hair definitely looks better than mine. I am not even sure what you are complaining about

I say, dont bother with what the hair dresser told you, and use an anti dandruff and fortifying shampoo once a week and gradually, make it once a fortnight. You dont seem to need much other hair treatment otherwise, you have great hair

Personally I just wash my hair with head and shoulders for greasy greebs Then I let the sun, wind ,rain, and bushes cut it The trick is never to towel dry or hairdry, squeeze it out and brush it through, pony it and leave. Release 3 hours later for that ultimate bimbo shine and body.lol.
