Hey guys,

i've been calling a few places around melbourne here, and a few have asked me to come in so i can chat to them in relation to getting employment. i've been to this one place before, and failed. so i've come to you guys in the hope that you'll have some advice for me on how to nail a job at an aquarium? i lack general aquarium retail experiance, although i have some retail experiance. i know i don't "know it all" in regards to aqua knowledge, but i've been keeping discus and marine succsessfully for a while now.

any shop owners out there with some advice? what would you look for ?

if anyone is will to help tweak my resume you can email me at stuart@stuartsmithmusic.com and i'll foward it onto you

thanks guys!

i mean like talking about dealing with 300 hundred fish that look alike, like red rosy feeder minnows.

You probably won't get a formal interview, but the owner or manager that you talk to will likely ask you a few questions about fish in general (like a quiz) or your experiences with them. If you don't appear overly nervous or overly cocky and you wear fairly nice clothes, then you'll have a good chance of making it. Be polite, and make sure that you shake their hand and have a firm grip. That will leave them with a good impression of you.

Of course, some stores will need extra staff more than others, and some may be looking for expertise in other areas than fish. If necessary, emphasize that you would be willing to work with other animals and help customers with them. Flexibility is a very nice asset.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

If it is like the one that I am working at yes kind of. The thing is they don't lose a lot of people so trying to get in is hard even if you know your stuff. I have been talking with them for quite some time....... say over a year before I got in. Building bridges is a good thing to do. I never really had a formal intervew. I just went in and talk to the owner'(S) quite a few times until I finaly got a phone call going we can get you a few hours. So far so good.

Good luck!!
