Just registered to this amazing site so I thought I'd just post a quick hello!

I found this site while looking for info on Black Ghost Knifefish before I took the plunge and bought one (got one last week and he's doing great, what a cool fish!) and I was very impressed by the information available on here.

Hopefully I'll be here for a long time and get to know some of you a little better )

Welcome to the site Lynne.

It gladdens me very much that you did research on your fish.
so many people out there are impulse buyers when it comes to
fish. I hope that you find this site to be a friendly place
to get information and to help others, and also that we get
to know yo ua bit better.

How many tanks do you have? What size are they? Also what
kind of fish do you like and keep?

Welcome,
Megil.

Hi Megil and thanks for the warm welcome

I first caught the fishkeeping bug when my father set up a tank for me when I was 5 (I really wanted a puppy and at the time neons and an Angel seemed a bit of a letdown lol) and I have had fish for pretty much most of my life since then. I have 3 tanks but only one tank is set up atm its a Juwel Rio 180 and currently houses 3 Angels (1st fish I ever owned and stil have a soft spot for them) and my BGK.
As for my favourite fish it would have to be discus. I have kept these amazing fish and was lucky enough to witness them breeding, unfortunately just as they were getting the hang of it the shop underneath my flat had a fire and the smoke wiped out pretty much all of my fish. It was a very upsetting time and it's only lately that I've started my tank up again. I hope however to get some more discus soon when I get one of the other tanks set up.

Sounds like a grand tank. I too ahve a soft spot for discus
and angels. Though currently being a college student in a
Dorm situation I cannot house a tank for discus and Angelfish.
My last discus tank was also my first attempt at a planted
tank, needless to say the two shouldn't go hand in hand when
one is inexperienced. so I haven't had discus since then, but
plan on having a large (hopefully 6ft )planted discus tank
in the future.

We need some more discus sympathizers to help convince the others how grand they are

Sounds great Megil, I don't think I could trust my floorboards with a 6ft tank though lol I wouldnt dare go any bigger than the ones I have. I have enough room for a pair of discus though and I've been dropping hints to my bf for an early Christmas present

Hey Callatya, thanks for the warm welcome I think everyone has made the mistake of not researching a fish at least once, myself included but I'm a lot older and wiser now It makes sense at the end of the day, not much point buying a fish you know nothing about, bringing it home then waking up the next morning and finding out its eaten all your other fish or they've eaten it!! Ok a bit of an extreme example but a bit of research can save a lot of upset.

Thats so true...The best thing is to do some research of the fish you want,i know..i did the same mistake once.
