The first severe storm of the season hit South-East Queensland yesterday, and it hit my family with a bit of a bang. My aunt was outside winding up her car window when she was struck by lightning and thrown several metres onto the concrete driveway.

Amazingly, she's okay. Got a big bump on the head and she's not allowed to drive for a month (not sure why, maybe there's a danger of sudden black-outs), but she's out of hospital today and doing interviews with every radio, newspaper and TV station around.

Seems my family is a bit of a freak-accident magnet, but at least we're good at living to tell the tale!

I served with a guy in the Army who had been struck once and he had absolutely no residual health effects. He did get very agitated whenever the weather would get bad though. We would have to get him indoors if he heard thunder. Anyways enough of my stupid story. I wish your Aunt the best.

It was a beautiful storm too Adam, despite the damage it did to some buildings (and my aunt!). There were some great pictures of lightning around the highrises on the Gold Coast.

One of today's stories about my aunt:

That police officer that got shot in the leg and was on the news? That was my cousin Jeremy. Never met him though...

Woah JB, Adam mentioned that to me when I got home from work a few days ago. That's pretty stunning....

I think your family has had more than it's share of run ins.

I dont think I know anyones that been struck by lightning or even heard of it really before .

^_^

My aunt went back into hospital today. She's been having convulsions.

We're a bit freaked out here, hoping we haven't celebrated too soon.

*hugs auntie*

How is she going? It must be very stressful for the family.

I imagine being struck by lightening would mess with your nervous system. I'm not even remotely educated in that field so I could be wrong.

*hugs JB*

I didn't hear anything yesterday, so I'm going by some 'no news is good news' optimism. She was having some tests done, so I guess we're just waiting to hear if they figure anything out. I think she's okay for now, but just worried about possible permanent damage.
