Is honesty always the best policy?

How honest is too honest?

Honesty and tact

Although I dont always use tact .

However, honesty is one thing, but if I'm made a promise that is something else and I dont' break promises....for the most part .

ahhh this brings back memories of all my ethics classes.

Other,

The topic is way to complex to narrow it down to a one liner.

For example, there is the difference between the honest person (sender) and the target of a statement. Ideally, the sender should have the least trouble when being honest, but he/she has to consider the reaction of the target to an honest statement and wage if it is worth it. Ideally, the target should appreciate the sender’s honest message, but second guessing of the sender’s the motivation and personal issues get in the way.

I could go on and on, but I think you get my point with the example above.

IMHO, in an ideal world, honest should get us the furthest. But – that’s not where we live.

Personally, I am a brutally honest person and experience my share of problems with it.

A spade is a spade; do not ask me if you can't handle the answer.

Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn.

In the end "A spade is a spade!"

Now in some instances, you may only tell acknowledged truth, and/or only some truth, but it should be truth always, and always honesty. Omission can sometimes be beneficial, but only the omission of the what for, not omission of the truth. In other words, if asked about something, answer yes, but then state you won't discuss it. No lies, and honesty here. But omission as well.

Omission is sometimes beneficial - "What spade? I know nothing about a spade"

You left out "totally lieing". lol. And Omission and totally lieing are two different things. It should be added;
Omission is sometimes beneficial - "Yes I know. But and not discussing it"
Lieing is sometimes beneficial - "What spade? I know nothing about a spade"

Mob comes to your house randomly looking for your mother who pleaded with you to hide her. The mob knows you know where your mother is. Do you tell the mob where she is.

Or something along those lines was one of the questions from ethics class.

you'd think the mob would do a bit of research or have had someone tailing you anyway, so it wouldn't matter what you told them from their POV, it would just be for your peace of mind that you would bother saying anything at all.

And calling something a pitchfork is outright lying isn't it?

Perhaps omission should be avoidance... can I edit polls? I'll go find out

I am nearly always honest, but I do consider myself to be a really good liar.

Tis a good skill to have Cory,

I'm pretty abysmal at it, it makes me ill and i end up blurting too much out to try to compensate.

If this can be applied it will work. The trouble here is when asked for an honest opinion I tend to give it straight no use beating around the bush just go for it.

Tactfull can often be not what some want to hear.

Today I believe its called bending the truth and not telling the full story.

Now exactly what have I been doing?????

Honesty and tact, I suppose... although I'm fairly good at dancing around the subject until you might THINK that the spade is a pitchfork or vice versa... Hey, it's a good talent to have at times!
