So we settled on our first house yesterday

PAINTING IS BORING

especially if the colour of the new paint when wet is identical to the old paint. Its VERY hard.

Anyway, there was this blue spot on the wall.

we painted over it.

and there it was again.

so we painted over it.

and there it was again?!

So I slapped on some joint compound.

And the little devil leached through!

What is it? How do we get rid of it?? HELP??

(the large blue smear is my fingermark, as I was not certain that it was actually leaching though, but lo, when i touched the cement, it smeared, and thats just not cricket! The actual mark is about 12 x 6mm and the colour of Protozin)

If a neutral colour wont cover it then I would use my photographic printing background to nut out the prob.

Yellow is opposite to blue. Paint over the blue spot with yellow pigment.

Then cover it in white because it will be a bit darker than the surrounding wall.

Then cover with the paint colour of the wall.

Presto! in seven easy steps.

(was just thinking of calling you about 10 mins ago to get an update on the house but now I know where you are up to. Frustration! Thinking of you)

If you can't paint over it, hang a picture instead.

No matter what you do unless you paint the whole area you will be able to see a build up behind the paint.

There are several products that will paint over most things. Bristol Paints have a very good product but it is extremly expensive.

Here is one sure way but this will depend on all your trade skills.

There is a good posibility it could be coming through the plaster.

Treat it as a hole. Cut it out plus extra be carefull as you do not know what is behind the plaster.

If you do not how to carry on from this point PM me your home E/m and I will give you all the necessary info. It is extremly easy if you know how to do it. It requires very little in the way of trade tools. But you will require a piece of plaster to replace the hole in the wall. This can be found at any building site.

We have something in the states called kiltz. It is a special, paint meant to treat mold stains etc. Nothing leaches through it, just hope you have something similar. A paint store would know.

OK, the strangest thing, the blue leached out through the joint compound

so once I sanded it off, it was barely visible, and 2 coats of paint later and it is invisible.

Keith, I'm going that was on a few places, just have to find some gyprock before i start hacking holes in things (although i'm pretty sure I can just fill most of them).

And its er, kinda near the floor, so hanging a piccie would look odd (piccie goes on the opposite wall after applying 'stone effect' to cover the 7 or 8 botched hole fixes from the last people)

What I'm getting really worried about is that its all over the carpet too. We are replacing it later, but all the same, ikky. Its going to run when we wash it.

THANK YOU all for your help Back to it now *sigh*

Good luck Calla! Painting is fun - for the time it takes to choose the colours, then for about 2 hours afterwards. I know, by the 12th hour of painting our living room, it certainly wasn't fun anymore! (and my place is much smaller than yours - eep!)

Calla you not having "the fun" with paintingness? I remember my legs were so sore from climbing up and down the ladder. Maybe you haven't bonded with the colours. The bf got his way on the neutrals?

Thank goodness that blue leeched out then sanded right off. Possessed.

Keep us up to date.

well, painting is done-ish.

still have about 5 stone effects walls to do. the only colour chosen so far is "maldives blue" for the loungeroom, which takes the grand total of blues in that room to approximately 9.

We have managed to lose the screws for the "fantastic plastic" furnature. J is threatening to nail them together. Thankfully we have also lost my toolbox so only have a stanley knife, a phillipshead screwdriver and an awl to work with

stove is odd. someone has wired autostart with not-so-heatproof wire so its completely burnt through and it now sparks over in one corner. V glad we found that before I went kaboom.
Oven scares me, has similar issue, thinking i may call electrician... is that who you call for ovens?

went to IKEA yesterday to get more storage. i swear we have too much stuff, but its all vital! so two FLARKE later and we are on our way to having room for more vital stuff.

fishies are all still at Mum and Dads. Lost Jaffa and Soxy so far. *sigh* nothing I can do about it though I guess, just gotta keep going til this is done. no room for fishies here atm (boxes boxes) and mum is trying her best.

still no computer. I'm typing this on Js lappy and it is taking me forever as the keys are all tiny and I cannt move te lappy as the net signal is pathetic as we dont have our little hotplate aerial installed yet.

Will have piccies and stuff soon Hope all is well here *hugs site in general*

HI Calla, I am having peeps over on Sunday 4th and was going to ask if you and Jerry wanted to come. Instead it seems you are having fun filling the FLARKE. I have no storage so you could have lorded it over me totally! If you are free sunday afternoon let me know... I am sure you have better things to do though.

Sorry to hear you have had some wishie losses.

9 blues in one room minus the blue leeching through where it was not wanted!

I am worried about the oven. No cheese scones for a while please.

If you can wait til I come down around New Year Calla, I can get my electrician BF to look at the oven for you! Course that would mean baking no Christmas goodies .
