I got the weirdest feeling today... just the feeling that I HAD to go this LFS that I normally don't visit. That in and of itself was weird, because I wasn't even thinking of fish at the time. Other than that, it's small and sometimes doesn't have the healthiest stock. It does, however, usually have a nice selection of bettas. Anyway, since I generally listen to the random feelings I get, I took a side trip on the way home from work.

There was an odd sign on the door, something about not opening until two because of the "incident." Wasn't quite sure what that meant, but since it was past four, I walked on in. The interior of the store was in disarray. It's a small store in the first place, but there was equipment and tanks in random places, and half the tanks were dry and empty.

I was shocked to find out that someone had broken in and dumped soap into half the tanks (all the saltwater tanks, not the fresh from what I could tell), stole a tidy sum of cash and basically made a wreck of the place. It was so sad.

The owners were in the midst of rearranging stuff but were open, because obviously they would need the income to fix things up! One of the guys was telling me that the person had even broken the credit card machine, as well as killing his most expensive stock. The sad thing is that the police weren't doing much in the way of helping. The security cameras weren't of great quality and they couldn't prove anything. Amazing how with such great technologies, we still can't punish someone for killing hundreds of fish on a whim. ]:| They're trying to appeal to animal cruelty organizations on the matter.

In any case, being somewhat low on cash (and tank space) at the moment, the best I could do to support the store was to buy some fish food. Finally found some earthworm flakes. I also asked after wild type bettas and he said he'd try to get some in within a few weeks... If that's the case, I may just have to splurge. It's supporting a good cause!
