MMmmmm starters..

A little ardenne pate with a crusty roll, butter and a little lemon, maybe some fried whitebait with a little tartare to dip them in.Languistines in sweet garlic butter,

For mains..

Wild boar sausages and a rich onion gravy, and some mashed spuds.

Rack of beef, slow barbecued until pink and tender. Served with sauteed vegetables.

Fresh caught trout with butter lemon and almonds and some minted jersey potatoes smothered in butter.

Pheasant served with a port jus and champ potatoes, perhaps some caramelised red onions.

Venison in red wine gravy, heavy on the herbs, perhaps served with some potato and onion cakes.

Leg of lamb with minted gravy roast potatoes, and the usual seasonal vegetables.

Duck a l'orange. mmmm.

Monkfush in a herbed white wine and cream sauce, served together with pasta strips a little like a tagliatelle.

Scallops served in a subtle chinese style with sweet garlic, a reduced fish stock and a little sesame oil(no bacon! what kind of philistine takes a delicately flavoured shellfish like that and smothers it in bacon?),

Grilled or shallow fried butterfish , dover sole, john dory, etc and dauphinoise potatoes with just about anything.

And i love prawn toasts, and thai green curry. I also love hot wings, rotisserie chicken, and ill take a nice roast pork roll with stuffing and apple sause and a little salt over a burger anyday.

.....as for pudding Creme brulee, banoffee pie,rum baba, or chocolate cheesecake, or the ever unfailing profiteroles. Possibly an uber-rich mint ice cream if I can find one. Maybe my home made pancakes , served hot with a sweet blueberry filling and a little cornish ice-cream.

Obviously what I like to eat and what I actually get given are two different things.

I only consider vegetables when desperate or constipated

Ribs its all about the Ribs baby

ST Louis style ribs with sweet but tangy bbq sauce. MMMMMM Then add some nice smoked beef brisket with BBQ chicken wings & i'm happy.

However if i was back home in England you couldn't beat a good piece of COD or Haddock with Chips(Fries) and thick gravy(Brown Gravy) so thick you can stand your fork up & Mushy Peas(Processed Peas). Or a nice Sunday meal consisting of Beef Roast, Mashed Potatoes, Peas, Gravy, Yorkshire Puddings, & Mint Sauce. Then the beef dripping afterwards is awesome on bread. hehehe MMMMM

Thanks for your input as always, Shane

bar-b-qued tofu meatless balls

Here's a cousin to your above food;

wish-ga's tofu skewers (kebabs)

1 x pkt hard tofu cut into 2 inch cubes ("nigari" is the hardening agent you see written on the packet)

cubed pumpkin steamed but still firm (so it stays on skewer)
zucchini
capsicum/pepper (red/yellow/green - you decide)
onion cut into wedges for threading onto skewers

2 large cloves of garlic chopped coarsly (will blacken on the bbq hotplate and is delicious)

spices
mixed into olive oil in a little bowl and set aside
1/2 teasp tumeric
ground chilli powder to taste (Americans note: ground up chilli peppers not pre mix spice)
1/4 teasp ground cumin
1/8 teasp powdered garam marsala
1/4 teasp curry powder

=======

lightly microwave the veges (but not cooked through)
assemble skewers by alternating veges and tofu (or chicken if you like)
lay the skewers on a tray and sprinkle with chopped garlic
pour the spiced oil over
Leave a little while or cook straight away.

BBQ or cook indoors in non-stick frypan

Breakfast: Eggs benedict. Hands down the best breakfast.

Lunch: Any Sushi when I want to spend money on lunch and Swiss cheese and sauted mushroom burger if not.

Dinner: A bucket of steamer clams and melted butter and Shrimp Alfredo pasta.

A large sausage pizza from Frank's Club Napoleon in Silvis, Illinois. They make their own sausage and it is unlike any other pizza I've ever had. You get the large because they cut it into strips instead of wedges. My favorite home made treat is butterscotch chip cookies crumbled up and mixed into rich, French vanilla ice cream.

aaronfry - that sounds goood... I adore sea scallops, but haven't had any that were near as good as the ones I had while on the east coast of Nova Scotia, Canada. Mmm... sooooo good. What you can get here near Chicago just isn't as fresh.

Greatest appetizer ever invented

Makes me think affectionately of an appetiser I had recently. Fresh figs with melted gorgonzola.

Kitten... isn't it just torture whenyou eat something delicious far from home? won't bore you but I have memories of yummy things eaten..... tried to recreate one item but haven't managed to capture whatever it was.
