How would one go about making a GIF file from certain movie clips (from a DVD I guess)?

If I could figure out a way to save the selected movie in AVI (or something else) format onto my computer, then I think I can figure the rest out. Any ideas?

If you have a GIF program, you could probably just go frame by frame and print screen and paste into it. There could be a more sophisticated way, though...

My DVD playing programs don't let me print screen. It's pretty dumb.

If you want to record a portion of a movie clip, atleast it sounds like that is what you want.
There are screen recorders that will do that.
A free one it bluent's screen recorder. Atleast I think that is the name.
Do a search on free screen recorders, or check at download.com and you can get a free trial.

Otherwise you have to have dvd editing software like winvideo where you can edit the video file, when you cut what you want you can save it to disk.

There are free programs like this that might work. There is windows movie maker which looks like it has the capability to do that.

As far as gifs if you have the pics already, again download.com has free gif animators, they allow you to select the photos you want and ties them together for you in a neat little package.

Good luck.

The screen recorder doesn't work either. I'll probably just download the movie illegally or film the screen with my camcorder or something like that.
