main stream music changes with the times!!! for petes sake!! I dont think you know what you are talking about, imagine, all those "one hit wonders" out there, why were they not successful? there must be a reason! Why is metallica still successful? Thousands of fans attend their concerts every year! Apparently they must be doing something right, and if i must say, They are one of the greatest live performing bands!!!! Think about it chris, look at your one hit wonders, look at metallica, change is inevitable.
Also moondog, sharing music for free when you start out, is kind of the way to do it, especially when you dont have money! making music costs money, giving it out for free is the easiest way to get people to hear your music when you are starting a band. Personally I think downloading entire albums are wrong! Support your bands! Reminding you that they dont keep all their money, charities also benefit!

I first heard metallica when someone cranked up the Garage Days Revisited EP on the schoolbus... The guitar riffs hooked me immediately and influenced my guitar playing alot.. I like old metallica best !

Heres another point!
If you are truly a band fan, and they are your favorite group, there should be no reason why you cant accept what they are donig and go along with the flow! Heavy riffs, primoridal screaming, its there, dont knock it before you try it. its like friends friends change, thick through thin, in sickness and in health......thats what it is alla bout, and metallica is proving that they can still rule the rock world.

oh p.s. happy birthday to me today!!! 9/7/05!!!!

tanya, i don't think anyone really believes that people who download metallica's music for free is doing it just to rip off the band. do you honestly believe that every single person who downloads the new metallica cd will NEVER buy it for themselves? i guarantee you that the true fans of the band *will* buy that new cd, even IF they previously downloaded it. i think it's hypocritical of metallica to say that the method that made them popular should suddenly be illegal to use.

but i want a band i can rock out to for a couple of generations. my parents had bands they grew up with and passed on to me, like arosmith. my mother loved them and now i love them and they have had the same sound for 20-30 years, why could my favorite band, metallica, do that for me, is that too much to ask. i don't think so, what i do think is that they have lost more fans than they have gained.

I just don't understand why you need to be pessimistic about them. They created an era, I agree with that, but if they would have kept on playing only that they first started out doing, they would more than likely be nowhere right now. Nowhere. Chris it just seems you dont like change...]

yeah, i mean they dont play any of St. Anger at all at concerts, and that just because they recoreded over themselves so much, that they would need more guitarists. I personally like the new stuff, i dont think its that bad. I'm looking forward to seeing if they are coming out with any new stuff.

yes they are still selling out concerts, because they were one of the greastest rock bands of all times. they are not selling out because of their new music.

The only reason charities benefit is to offset owed taxes mmmmkay? Most would not give freely if it weren't such a lovely tax write-off.

Sorry, just the way it is.

Does anyone listen to metallica's garage inc. album? I bought it and started listening to it, and even though its cover songs and stuff, its still really good. My favorite songs on there are "sabra cadabra" "Its electric" "whiskey in the jar" "Die, Die my darling" and "Mercyful Fate"

i don't want to hear changing with the times, that is crap. honestly, how many new fans do you think they have picked up with this junk. very few i think. metallica was, in my opinion, one of the greatist bands of all time but i can not stand this new stuff and everyone i know feels the same way. in a time when there are very few good hard rock bands left metallica turned on us and i am sure that none of there new stuff will bring them the honors of their fist few albums.

here is my one big problem with metallica vs napster: when metallica was trying to make a name for themselves, they allowed their fans to share their music *FOR FREE* so that their music could be heard. now that they're an established band, they suddenly think that their music should be paid for, and that their fans should not be allowed to have free metallica tunes. i understand that they don't want unreleased material to be downloaded for free, but i think that misses the big picture, and that is that sharing music for free is what made metallica the band they are today.

I totally agree with you on the Napster thing Tanya81, and I supported metallica 110%. When everyone was burnin CDs and stuff, i was just listening more. I have not downloaded any metallica music that i dont already have, since i have every single one of their CD's. But I also agree with Wes Scantlin from Puddle of Mudd's point of view. The way he sees it, downloading music is just a way for kids who dont have the money to buy CDs to still be able to listen to music, so in his opinion it is a good thing that you can download music.

I agree with moondog. Everything else after the black cd was garbage.

My favourite cd of theirs is master of puppets.

Fade to black.

Nope don't think much of the new stuff, but that was made for another generation anyways.
