Hi everyone, I have just recently moved to sydney (Alexandria) from outer suburbs and am setting up a small tank 20g, after having to leave my 4 ft tank at previous home
Being new to the area i have no idea where to shop for my new family of fish. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi fishgirl42. Welcome to Sydney & FP.
I'm new to this hobby, but lived in Sydney all my life - so hopefully lots of other Sydneysiders will give you ideas closer to your suburb. I'm from the Sutherland Shire and whilst it maybe a bit far from Alexandria, I've found this place to be good.[http://www.majesticaquariums.com.au/]. They do trade-ins on tanks you no longer want, have 2nd hand tanks available for sale, as well brand new ones too. They will buy excess stock from you, if you're little ones breed & you have no room - and they are friendly too. I'm sure that you'll find somewhere closer to home. Do a google search or yellow pages search - that's what I did & it's how I found them. By doing this, and reading other links on this site, I've also found some very quick service on-line firms that deliver sooo quickly all the other goodies that we seem to need. I can give you the links, if you're interested. Good luck with your new fishy family.

Cheers

If you are still looking for a good sydney fish shop, someone else gave me this link http://www.slipperylittlesuckers.com/. No personal experience, but I was by the other person he has heard several good reports on this shop.

Hi there

SLS is pretty good, but they are a bit on the $$ side. Great if you need imported fish though, they get some stunning discus.

I'd be looking at St George Aquariums in Rockdale. Not exactly close (30 mins?), but very healthy fish, reasonable prices, and its massive! 4 rooms full of fish, a glazier's room and a showroom upstairs. They also manufacture their own tanks at good prices.

Crystal Palace also has a decent reputation, and I think thats in the area too.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Although I also haven't been to St George Aquariums in Rockdale, from other sources at my work who have, they agree with Callatya that its a good place. So good luck
