i doubt you'll be hearing from any members from there for at least a couple days. but i'm not sure if we have anyone from "nawlins" on this board anyway

Nobody in Louisiana says "Nawlins", and they hate it when people think they do.

Just seen the latest news about Hurricane Katrina hitting New Orleans. It does NOT look good.

Anyone here on the Board from NO, come in here ASAP and let us know you're OK. Only I've just seen some pics of the area, and it looks like it's been hit pretty badly ...

We'll keep our fingers crossed for you all ...

Hey Y'all. I actually checked out the forums for the first time in a long time. Yes, I am in NY...tho I was technically planned to be in New Orleans for the past week, that didn't pan out. It's good and bad. I want to be back there. Its my home. I have no idea where my family or my friends are. I do know that my best friend's house is completely submerged, and that ours is sitting in about 4-5 feet of water currently.

I know everyone has been watching the news, but you really need to know the area to understand what they don't want to tell you. If you have questions, reply back, I know what's going on.

Also, only backwater bayou cajuns say N'awlins. And, that's usually only when drunk...these are the same people that in a sentence, you can only understand about every 3rd word. Its new-OHR-lens or new ohr-LEENS. Both are accepted. The One that is never accepted that one of the foxnews guys says is New Or Le Ans....BAD BAD WRONG Guy should be strung up by his toes from a magnolia and left for gator bait

My sister's fiance is an EMT and his ambulance community has sent two units down to new orleans and may be sending more in the near future. It's possible he might be going down there himself.

Kind of scary to think about it, but heck... if I could help, I'd be down there. *shrugs*

Wow, weird. I was listening to this song when I saw this thread:

Bourbon blues on the street, loose and complete
Under skies all smokey blue-green
I can't forsake a dixie dead-shake
So we danced the sidewalk clean
My memory is muddy, what's this river that I'm in?
New Orleans is sinking man and I don't wanna swim

Colonel Tom, What's wrong? What's going on?
You can't tie yourself up for a deal
He said, "Hey north you're south shut your big mouth,
You gotta do what you feel is real"
Ain't got no picture postcards, ain't got no souvenirs
My baby, she don't know me when I'm thinking bout those years

Pale as a light bulb hanging on a wire
Sucking up to someone just to stoke the fire
Picking out the highlights of the scenery
Saw a little cloud that looked a little like me

I had my hands in the river
My feet back up on the banks
Looked up to the lord above
And said, "Hey man thanks"
Sometimes I feel so good, I gotta scream
She said Gordie baby I know exactly what you mean
She said, she said, I swear to god she said...
My memory is muddy what's this river that I'm in?
New Orleans is sinking man and I don't wanna swim

Spooky. Great song though.

Seriously though, I hope things turn up for everyone there soon.

Yeah, but this one's been breakin my heart...It's one of the prettiest songs about New Orleans that has always put me at ease.

Take me... Take me
To the city beneath the sea
The river will wrap around me
And the music will let me be
You can find me on the neutral ground
On the corner of Fleur-de-lis
Please... somebody won't you take me
To the city beneath the sea

Take me... Take me
Where the night outshines the day
You can hear the tap of soda caps
And smell the Ettoufe', You can fais do do with Jacamo
Or fi na ne 'till three
Please... somebody won't you take me
To the city beneath the sea

How... How long
Can I stay away
How... How long
Can I stay away

Take me... Take me
To the Meters and the Mardi Gras
They bet you where you got your shoes
And they eat their oysters raw
Pork Chops dances all night long
But he won't dance for free
Please... somebody won't you take me
To the city beneath the sea
~Harry Connick, Jr.

Hi,
There is a huge call center in the Denver Red Cross
that is taking phone calls from folks asking after their
friends and loved ones in the New Orleans area. They are
attempting to get folks in touch with each other.

Now, they are predicting that the death toll is over a
thousand and with the broken and leaking levees, that
even more of the city and area around it will be flooded.

A geologist was saying that if they don't stop the leaks
that the Mississippi will form a new mouth and way into
the gulf.

Frank

Hey Frank, where are you getting your information from? I question it because That's not quite the way that the levee system works. For one, the broken levee is actually part of the Canal, not the floodwall itself, and its not on the river side of the city...its coming in from the Lake.

One of the things that I've noticed from the beginning of this, is that no two news sources give the same information. You need to understand the area, and these reporters don't. It's also amazing how fast, say, what Nagin says, that gets changed immediately on the new broadcast from these stations.

Frank, I have heard that same thing as well, though I don't know which news source I read it from while I was waiting at WalMart. I can see how that could happen if the leak is not fixed soon enough, and anything at this point is possible.

[link=CNN News]http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/08/31/katrina.recovery/index.html" style="COLOR: #FF1493[/link] [link=and MSN News]http://www.msn.com" style="COLOR: #FF1493[/link] Again another site I've been visiting that might help to answer some questions. As far as I can honestly tell, most, if not all the stories I have read online and seen on tv seem to coorelate. I may not be there, but I feel the news in both television and written medias are doing a good job.

Also in about 4-6 hrs from now (midnight to 2 am, Thursday morning CST) the refugees from the Superdome will begin arriving here in Houston where they will be staying at the Astrodome, till better facilities can be arranged. They will have the basic necessities for life, cots, showers, toilets, food, water, and medical care. The Astrodome's schedule has been cleared till December and if needed will be cleared longer. Also as I posted earlier this will place them within the Houston ISD, so that some sense of normalcy can begin to take place in these children's lives. They will be treated as any other child entering the schools here or that is the ultimate goal. All services will be provided, supplies, breakfast/lunch, uniform/standardized dress, etc.

I'm sorry to hear that you all believe this information. The levee that has a break in it, for one, as i said, are in the canals...and Two, they are NOT on the mississippi river. It won't be making a New way to the ocean thru the city, seeings how it is still completely fine and dandy behind the levee on the river walk

:: sighs and shakes head :: I read and watch the news too, and I also have personal experience with these things, but, believe what you will.

Google Maps Latest

Ye Gods.

Basically, if it's tinted a mucky olive green, it's flood water.

For information from people that have lived in the area and know it, check out this site. This is the only media source I trust.

I hate to keep dragging this post back up, but for those who are interested (sorry yet again, some of us are in this way too deep, and it's driving those around us insane) Here are 2 sites that have lists/threads/postings of "have you seen?" "Any information on..." "I've found..." "I have information on..." "I'm fine, I'm in..."

[link=WWLTV.com]http://www.wwltv.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=15" style="COLOR: #FF1493[/link]

[link=NOLA's Missing and Found Site]http://www.nola.com/forums/searching/index.ssf?initial=true" style="COLOR: #FF1493[/link]

God, willing those of us missing friends and loved ones will find them...though by all means this is a long shot...

For those out there, keep those on the Gulf Coast in your thoughts. It seems Houston has filled all of her available places to hold these poor souls...

I hear they are sending them to El Paso, and the "black traffic signs" are saying Evacuee traffic, please direct yourself to someplace in Arkansas, or basically something of the sort this morning while traveling on 225, to 610 to 59 N....So it isn't just us in Texas taking these people in, it is everyone...Thank you for your thoughts and concerns, it's going to be awhile, a long while before things ever return to normal...

And if you think you aren't being affected or won't be affected directly...Leslie found out last night that she too will be affected directly. Her daughter Katie will be moving down there for medical assistance in the next week or so...

So folks this is ongoing...

Sorry again to keep updating this again, but it might help some...
