i noticed it from the beginning... but I was also trained to look for such things.....
hmmm i agree with you on that...i was swiming(snorkling) with a friend a few months ago and he pointed to some rocks below me(3-4 meters down),i couldn't see anything rather than some rocks. He dived down and then i could see a big octopus swiming away.He knew it was there because he knows what to look for and he has caught many octopuses every year..and me...not one single octopus.
Check out this link..SHARK VS OCTOPUS..
http://my.break.com/Content/ViewContentPublic.aspx?ContentID=HjlDV7%2bdjkChBExneb%2b4jw%3d%3d&ContentTitle=SHARK+VS+OCTOPUS&ContentURL=http%3a%2f%2fmedia1.break.com%2fdnet%2fmedia%2fcontent%2fsharkvsoctopus.wmv
Did you know that the octopuses also sometimes make suicide..they bite themself to death..

i noticed it from the beginning... but I was also trained to look for such things. It just kinda stood out to me. But then again, I knew I was looking for a camoflauged animal, so my brain kicked into "find the oddity."

Awesome none-the-less, I think they are some of the sweetest creatures on earth. Also....

octopuses. -i ending is plural for words ending in the suffix -us. octopus ends in -pus not -us so it's plural would be octopuses.

That was a stunning demonstration of the ability of cephalopods to control not only their colour, but the texture of their integument as well. Takes quite a bit of processing power in the brain to blend into backgrounds to that degree of efficiency under conscious control.

Mind you, I saw a documentary on cuttlefishes which showed them performing all kinds of strange colour change tricks - including generating pulsating patterns that rippled all over the body in order to confuse and bewilder assorted crustaceans which, in a fairly short period of time, ended up as lunch.

In fact, some species of cephalopod can make themselves look like something from a science fiction movie about alien body snatchers or suchlike - a case of "sorry, Hollywood, but Nature got there 100 million years before you did"

Octopuses are really sweet. but Cuttle fish still hold a special place in my heart.

Cephalopods in general are such specialized and extraordinary creatures. and to think they are invertebrates O.o

That's cool.

Anyone remember the discovery of bipedalism in octopuses a few months ago? That was awesome. Octopuses are so cool.

Anyone else notice that the first thing the octopus did after it had hold of the shark? The octopus instinctly turned the shark upsidedown. If anyone thinks its just luck that the shark ended up in this position, keep watching. The octopus did what it could to keep the shark upside down.

Humans are just recently discovering that sharks go into a calm, trance like state when turned upside down. Gotta love nature.

Actually, Octopuses and Octopi can equally be used as a plural for Octopus.

As per Merriam-Webster.

I wonder if it's the same for Cactuses and Cacti? :88)
