Anyone currently on FF XI or Everquest online?

I finally splurged and upgraded the PS2 to the 40 gig HD and the network adaptor and set it up.

Only problem is my son can't find anyone that wants to do a group quest on Everquest. Any groups out there, and what server are you on?

Sorry, I don't play PS online, just City of Heroes on PC. I wish him luck though. I know that in City of Heroes, it's difficult to find teams to do quests when you're lower level. As I've leveled, I've found that it's become easier to find such groups though. Once you team with somebody once, if they see you can handle yourself well, they seem to have a tendency to want to team with you again. Tell him to stick with it and I'm sure he'll have plenty of groups in no time...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

So far all of the playstation games online play with the computer versions of those games, which is kind of neat as there are more people running around than there would be. I'm thinking of grabbing a 2 player game just so we can quest together, he really is good, just young.

Thanks, never thought about it but the low level is probably a deterrent.

EQ and FXI are true money guzzlers, fashioned as most sony products are. EQ, though once a MMORPG powerhouse, is now severely reduced in size, and the replay value (well, not replay, persay, but you know where I'm going with this) is not what it used to be, simply because it doesn't go head to head with other, less costly MMOs. X1 was pretty exciting and an interesting game; up until I realized that the 1242q354432 different classes and odd real time map interface made the game a bit too tedious for my tastes (like marrowind, only better). The monthly fee on top of the online box purchase does not help.

My advice: get WOW, or possibly even Guild Wars (god forbid).

Holy crap, you are the coolest mom ever.

Also, 2 player games online? Hmm...do you have two separate consoles to play on, because most online 2p games require such things (like I said, money guzzlers)?

He is 10 and a half which really matters only so far. I limit him on games with extreme pointless profanity and mutilation, and anything a little too advanced in terms of girls LOL Half clothed people are normal on TV and in games so no big deal, but talking about certain subject matters is a no just yet.

I don't mind violent or graphic games as long as they are within reason as most good role playing games are. He is really into all of the Forgotton Realms games for playstation 2. Everything about this is pretty pricey but he maintains an A average in private schooling which pretty much gets him most of what he wants, and then he works for the rest of it. I really liked Morrowind better than FF10 but haven't played the FF we just got. Nor have I played the new Myst that just came out on XBOX (our XBOX is at home in Nebraska ).

The reason I game with him is pretty simple. He is ten, he really doesn't want much to do with "mom" anymore, so this is one of the few ways I can still spend time with him

I'll take it.

Looking up WOW and Socom2, why is guild wars god forbid? bad game? Sounds like a game we would buy LOL. As for two consoles, so how would I be able to get both consoles online at the same time? Interesting thought, or I guess I could run LAN cables to the PS2, so far been letting it run off of dial up and the only cable connection is here with the computer. Wonder if it is possible to wireless network a PS2??? :%) Buying a second console is pretty cheap actually, I would just need to pick up a used console so what 70 bucks, and then adding network card so 40 bucks, I guess I draw the line at a second hard drive LOL, looks like FF will be alone. hmmm. I'll have to think about that. That is kinda silly though, wish they were originally configured for two player action. What is killing him is he can't type very fast so people run off before he gets much of a chance to talk to them. Though this is the same kid that can beat most any game I bring home to him in 3 days or less. He's good just young

I think I got to be rambling somewhere in there, I just am a little frustrated for him, day two of almost continuous playing and he is still running solo. I just might spring for the second setup, but guess that means two copies of those games too igh:

Guild Wars? Well, it is highly glitchy and horrendously tedious, but it is good fun. I play it. : D. Personally, I would be less worried about vid game profanity and more about...er...20 year old college kid who dropped out of college to devote his life to video games profanity.

Also, Elder Scrolls was indeed better than FF10. I hate that game.

If you're gonna look at Guild Wars or WOW, I'd highly recommend City of Heroes. It's a very well-built game in which a LOT of people are present at all times (including 5:30am), and a LOT of us look to help out younger or newer players at every opportunity. The design-a-character feature is AWESOME, and it really lets each person's creativity come out. Also, I'd be more than happy to play with him whenever I could (though I play a lot during late-night hours), but at the very least, I could make his life easier by setting him up with some friends, influence (money, in that game), and instruction. It offers some very nice additions for situations like yours, including a filter that is rather harsh for improper language (it filtered the word "crap", and the filter is able to be toggled on and off (in case you get addicted to playing and get annoyed with seeing &$%* appear all the time )...

It works off of the very basic loves of superheroes and good vs. bad, but it also throws in a lot of cool things in the storyline too. It has a history to the game, TONS of different story lines, TONS of different bad guys, LOTS of maps, badges to earn, experience to get, influence to earn, powers to learn, buffs to balance for (inf is NOT endless and it helps teach someone to budget...to a point), aliens, and restricted areas so that he won't get jumped by some Player vs. Player guru or accidentally wander into some area where everything is 40 levels higher than he is. They're already prepping their new expansion pack, City of Villains, where he would be able to make his own bad guy too...

By the way...if you can't tell...I like the game... Also, mom can make a character for herself in her spare time since we all know moms are the BEST at saving the world...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

Well glitchy is not good, we both just end up looking at the stupid frozen screen and say YOU SUCK.

I think we're going to stop by the game store tomorrow and see if they have in City of Heros.

Thank you guys so much

Take a look at city of villains, too, when it comes out. I heard it's supposed to be quite good as well.

BTW: GW is not frozen screen glitchy--rather, sometimes, the graphics take a bit longer to load. All the other major bugs have been fixed.
