Sitting in the living room today trying hard to ignore the sounds of jackhammers when SMACK! I had a kingfisher come flying right into the window! He'd been closely followed by two other birds that flew off, but this guy stuck around under our porch table letting me get a few pics of him.

Adam says it's very strange to see them in this area.

Some kind of Todiramphus species, though the massive bill initially made me think it was one of the kookaburras.
