The RSPCA probably won't do a thing for a feral pigeon. They only care about their fluffy little dogs and cats.

You'll find that most places will euthanise it rather than rehabilitate it. I'd take it, but I have too many pigeons as it is.
Killing it is probably the best thing to do.

I agree with Trys and Dave. In this situation it is best to put it down. This kind of injury that, without expert assistance, will make it easy prey or your new pet.

Sorry Dutch

just set the wing, and save it, i knew a woman who used to care for birds with broken wings, she just wrapped the wing, and secured it to its body.

What if the bones fuse incorrectly? Would (insert name here) be prepared to have a pigeon for the rest of it's life?
Even if it does work, who would spend hours doing physio with the bird?
What about some kind of pain relief?

Aww I'm sorry. Given that it is considered feral, I would say euthanasia is the best option as described above. It may seem cruel but there are some very good reasons for regulations like that.

If you were closer to where I live, I would have taken the pigeon in. For now, I would say, wrap the wing loosely and pray that the fellow recovers. Pigeons can be very hardy.

Snap his neck, it'll take two seconds.
Letting him live just to relieve your conscious will cause more long term harm than good.

Unfortunately any vet or organisation is obligated to euthanise the bird.

If the bird is unable to fly, this is actaully going to be the kindest option, as option #2 would involve the bird starving to death or being got at by a dog or cat.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

I had raised doves in the past- Pigeons ae very closely related. For a dove sized bird with a broken wing- what you do is keep the bird from moving the wing. place the wing in a normal possition close to the body, then place something comparable to a sock with the toes cut out over the bird so just the head and tail stick out. Depending on how big the pigeon is you may need to use an ace wrap ( like youd wrapp a sprain with) loosely ( but not to loose)around the bird.

Place clean water, food, and grit in tiny bowls in front of the bird, and keep it in a box big enought that it cant excape from , but small enough it cant move around.

Then wait patiently for about 3 weeks to a month for it to heal. Checking on the bird, cleaning the box a couple times a day, replacing food, water, ect as needed.
Handle it only when nessasary.

THe wrapp around the bird will make it feel safe, and help to calm it down. Keep it in a quiet area.

If this cant be done, and you cant go to vet, decapitation is the only other humane means of putting it down.

Call the RSPCA, they should be able to put you onto someone who can if they wont.

Can you call a local humane society/animal shelter or any government organization that rehabilitates birds? Your parents are probably worried about cost if you phone a vet but many government sponsored or charitable groups will care for an injured bird for free. It is possible to take care of the broken wing yourself but I wouldn't recommend it. If the shelter won't take the bird they may have a list of volunteers that rehabilitate them. You should be able to find contact numbers for animal shelters in the phone book, or ask your parents if they know of one. The only problem you *might* run into is if pigeons are considered pests in your area, then wildlife groups may not be willing to help.

Unfortunately most birds with broken wings will die in the wild. The bones will begin to set very quickly in the injured position, so they are unable to fly and vulnerable to predators or they just starve usually.

*sigh* Well, you've done what you can

What do birds do if they get a broken wing in the wild?
