So I was in the middle of arranging for a photoshoot with two people. I was the middleman between the subject and the photographer.

Got the date all planned, all was good....

Today is the day.

Well as of yesterday NONE of my calls to the subject had been answered, and I'm still not hearing ANYTHING from either party.

Its over. Never again will I arrange anything. Next time, they gotta pay me to do it.

I could have been at a baptism today to shoot that.. but noooooo this one was planned before me getting asked to assist at the baptism...

ARRRGGHHHHHHHHH

That's also the reason I work nights when my store is closed and why I'd rather spend time with my fish.

thing is, subject is a co-worker, and the photographer is someone i know from the place i rent some of my gear from...

can't charge them double as its a favor for BOTH of them. I can understand the photographer, as he also had another shoot going on today, but i've not even been able to get ahold of the co-worker. And she's giving me grief because of troubles at work - and I'm playing the middleman between her and the manager...

I need a vacation... oh, wait, I've already been off work a month for back surgery!

Strategy for next time. Just a suggestion. Leave a message saying

"Hi it's Dallas, I want to confirm the 23rd and run a few things by you before the day. If I don't hear from you by tomorrow 5pm I will just assume that you have made other arrangements. Look forward to working with you"

That way they know;
a) they need to call by a certain time
b) that you need particular information
c) that you are busy and may take an alternate booking.

You gain more respect by not being "on standby". (I found this with dating and friends too)

Even if no money is changing hands you have a right to say "if I don't hear from you I will make other arrangements". Then you have given warning. It doesn't have to be rude - truly. If they feel let down it is because they didn't pick up the phone, heck you are doing them the favour they should hittin' that speed dial.

Wish-ga is right.

By saying that they need to call to confirm, it MAKES them get back in contact with you if they want the shoot. If they don't get back, it can be assumed on BOTH ends that it is safely cancelled.

On the flip side, if you say that you are waiting for them, then they have no benificial reason to call you back. They win either way.
