Yesterday my aunt called me to ask me some advice about an outdoor kitten she found that was very sick. During the conversation I told her to get the proper antibiotics and such for it and I would come and get it and bottle raise it to give it the best chance possible. Well, when I got there I found out that the only reason only one kitten was sick was because that was the only one they had pulled out of the tree! I had to crawl around on the ground and scratch my right arm all to hell trying to fish kittens out of a rotten tree trunk. After I pulled 4 kittens out I looked real good with a flashlight and could not see any more, so I knocked down half the tree to make sure. The total was 4... 2 very, very, very sick little girls, 1 little boy who was already getting sick, and 1 little girl who was still fine. I brought home the 3 sick ones, and my aunt let the mother cat take the healthy one. Well, bottle raising anything is an around the clock chore, so I am a very sleepy girl now. They have eye infections that look much better in the pictures than they looked when I pulled them open and removed all the puss! They also have terrible respiratory infections, as well as serious dehydration and malnutrition. I waited till today to take pics because it has taken hours of cleaning them up to get them to look as good as they do now. While I have loads of hope for them to all make it, I am low on faith in the two females I brought back, Bunny and Miss Mouth. Snugglepuss, my baby boy, should be just fine. For now, it is force feeding and a lot of hard work, but hopefully in the end I will be rewarded with 3 happy, playful kittens bounding around the house and waiting for their forever homes! I thought I would include everyone in their progress though!

Without further ado, here is Bunny. I REALLY did not think she would make it through the night. She is the worst of the 3 by far!

Here is my baby boy, Snugglepuss. He is SO sweet. He is a lot healthier than the others, but still has his issues to overcome.

They are about a week and a half old (my Aunt knew right about when they were born). I am really working SO hard to keep them alive, but with them being as sick as they are, they have to want to live, and they have to really fight for their own lives too! I love them dearly already!

Snugglepuss is my little guy! I hate to tell you though... that is just the natural blue of newly opened eyes. They wont stay that way. True blue eyes are very pale in comparison. But baby blues are still heart melting!

Oh...my...gosh

They're adorable!

*steals one and exchanges it for one of her old fat cats*

I wish my cats could be kittens again. They're no fun now that they're old and lazy. >.<

Good luck with them. Dont let them into the shishies.

I hate it when they show up with cat flu Such a bugger to get rid of at that age

They are cute though And they are in good hands, so add me to the 'fingers crossed' pile

I did that 2 years ago with four that werew about that size when I found them. I was told that the mom hadnt been seen in a couple days(we figured that the coyotes has eaten her on the ranch). They were so weak and infested with fleas i didnt think that they were going to make it. I ended up bathing them at that young of an age to get the fleas off. I ended up giving them to my mom after about 3 weeks because i could not have any cats were i was living. All turned out well and they are now 4 huge terrors in my mom's house along with her other 3 cats. If you havent already you really should take all five (including mom) to the vet if possible. i was lucky that the 4 i had didnt have any upper respirtory infection they were just dehydrated anemic and had watery eyes (which i treated with terramyicin ointment).

Good luck with the little buggers,

Amanda

PS. If they make it they will be the sweetest, luv bug cats you have ever seen.

Well, the babies are hanging in there, and Snugglepuss actually nursed on his own this morning. Bunny gave it a try for a few seconds, but is still too weak (I was SO thrilled that she made some effort though!). Miss Mouth is still too congested to be able to nurse on her own.

The kittens have done the vet thing, their mother has not and will not for the time being. She is a wild cat, but we will trap her and spay her before she has any more kittens. My mother, my aunt, and I trap all the strays and get them altered to help keep down the pet population, and buy lots and lots of food and set up shelters for them so they can stay out of the cold/heat, and have meals every day. In the big scheme of things, it only helps a little, but every little bit counts! I have raised several litters of unwanted puppies and kittens now. These are the oldest I have ever taken on. Usually I get the newborn kittens and puppies sent my way. These little guys are just SO sick! I did get lucky in one regard... no fleas! I do agree though, bottle raised babies are EXTRA loveable!

The reason I am so in love with Snugglepuss is because he reminds me of another kitten I bottle raised that I ended up keeping named Edison. Sadly, Edison was attacked and killed by some of my dogs when he was only a couple of years old. He was my big lovebug! (Right after that I placed every dog involved in it into dog only homes with full warnings) I will dig up the last picture I took of Edison and add it to this post.

How fantastic of you to take on this full-time and then some responsibility. Sounds like the little guys are getting a great chance at life under your care.

If you aren't already, a good home remedy for the eye infections would be the use of damp tea bags. Tea contains tannic acid which will help to soothe and heal.

Another idea for the one little girl who won't nurse would be to use an eyedropper for feeding. It sounds like she is just too weak to try to nurse so this might assist her in at least getting some nourishment.

Good luck and keep us posted. You rock !!

LOL! Thanks! The ones who are not nursing on their own are being fed with a syringe so I can keep exact control over how much they eat. They get antibiotic ointment in their eyes twice a day, and it is working fabulously! They are also on oral antibiotics twice a day, which is slowly taking effect. They are lucky that I worked as a vet tech for so long because I am getting ahold of the vet today to get some fluids for injection to hopefully give them that added boost they need. It is feeding time now though, so off to serve the kitties! LOL!

Well, the two girls got fluids injected. I really do not think Bunny is going to pull around this time though. Poor little baby has me completely in tears. I have done everything that I can possibly do, but she is still shutting down on me. In all honesty, it would take a miracle now, and nothing less.

Miss Mouth I am giving about a 50/50 chance of survival. She has more of a will to live, but is still in a holding pattern and not showing much improvement.

Snugglepuss, on the other hand, I have complete faith in. He is quite the bossy, pushy, little ham! He is actually showing a LOT of improvement, and the only thing I think he is going to do that is bad now is break my heart when he goes to another home.

that is the only thing i hate about trying to rescue animales that young:#(i've had the same problem at one point and even took her to the vet in order to try to save her, but ended up losing her in the night...and I had sat up with her for 2 days being sure that she received fluids every 30 minutes and that she stayed warm...in the end I drifted off to sleep for about 30 minutes, and when I woke up for the next round she was gone:#( best of luck...heidi

The morning update:

Well, everyone made it through the night. I feel so bad for little Bunny, but I am managing to keep her around thus far. After an experience at the vet's office with a cat that was being forced to live past his time, it almost makes me feel guilty. Long story and hard to explain, it just pulls at my heart that much more. I just got done cleaning everyone up and giving them their breakfast, so they will be napping for a little while now.

The update would be... Snugglepuss is a strapping young lad now. So cute, so sweet, and so full of spunk! He has graduated to living free in the house, and has found his forever home... here... LOL! *rubs at the word 'sucker' on her forehead* I will have to get some new pics of him. It just seems like he grows so much every day. He now eats hard kitty food, and sleeps in the bed. SPOILED! He was the only one to make it of the whole litter. The two females I had were so far gone that even fluid injections twice a day could not pull them around. The little female (who was perfectly healthy) that my aunt insisted I leave with the mother cat is gone too. The mother dragged it up a tree, stuffed it in a hole and abandoned it there. ]:| Makes me mad because I said I wanted to bring her home too. She would have been the easy one to have make it. Nothing I can do about it now, but it still makes me mad. But, on the bright side, I did get Snugglepuss to survive!

I did not know where it was till about a week after the mother's milk had dried up, and then my aunt informed me they saw where she had hidden it. *rolls her eyes and sighs* It was WAY up a rotten tree, but I would have driven a van up next to it and climbed on top to save it had I known in time!
