Ok, i'll admit it, when i have nothing to do in the wee hours of the morning at work, i watched roseanne. Now, amazingly, for the 2nd time, i've missed part of the ending, and i need someone who knows to clear it up for me...

From what i gather, the entire last year of the show (after dan had a heart attack at darlene's wedding) was roseanne's writing? That'd mean they never won the lottery and did all that wellman's stuff? And dan really did die of that heart attack? What about darlene's baby? So many questions!!

Help!!

I've always hated the way they ended it. I've seen that ending at least a couple times and I think you're right, everything right after the heart attack is what she wrote. I'd never thought about the baby, but since Darlene was actually married to Mark instead of David (although I'm not sure how that makes any sense since the heart attack happened at David and Darlene's wedding...), the baby probably never existed.
I don't know why they had to go and give it an ending like that...

I never watched Roseanne, so Im not sure if Im answering your question but this is what the recap of the final ep was...

The second half to the final episode of the series. The Connors gather around the table as Darlene brings home their newborn baby. Then, the plot turns around you find out some interesting infromation from Roseanne. Warning Spoiler Below...scroll down:

Dan actually died from the heart attack. They never won the lottery. She switched the couples around, so Mark and Darlene were actually dating, and David and Becky were dating. We find out that Jackie was gay. Then, at the final moments, after everyone fades away, we find Roseanne in the basement, in her old writting room, that the kids made for her earlier in the series.(We can guess that she made up Seasons 4-9 for the story) She then walks up stairs and through the old kitchen and walks into the old livingroom, and sits on their old couch.

every season was the result of her writing. that's why in the final episode she says that she felt that darlene went better with david and becky went better with mark so she wrote it that way. in her real life (on the show of course) darlene was with mark and david was with becky. dan really did die of the heart attack and they never won the lottery.

I really hated the ending as well. I didn't particularly care for the final season but the ending was even worse.

I stopped watching after the lottery thing started. Just wasn't the same show.

I catch an episode here and there at work now, but my FAVORITE Roseanne episodes EVER - are the Halloween episodes.
