OK right so I have my tongue pierced.

And well I am wanting to take it out now and not have it anymore. So can anyone tell me if there is anything special I have to do???


I was going to take it out before I go to bed one night that way I am sleeping and by morning it will have closed up???

Is this all I need to do??

How old is the piercing?

Ive had mine done for over 10 years now....I can take it out and leave it out for months and it doesnt close up.

if its farly resent l;ike a week or two then ya just take it out and it will be fine and heal up. but i wont swear on it. my sister has her web peaced and her tongue so i know a lil about this stuff.
if your wondering what the web is, its the little thing that attaches to your tongue and mouth. its under your tongue. she did it her self and it didnt get infected or enything but i wouldent do it by my self jsut to be on teh safe side. so ya u should be fine if its farly resent

Rast I don't think it would close overnight would it? Ears don't close over that quickly. How oldfashioned am I? Ear piercings are my only frame of reference.

well the mouth and tongue are the fastest healing tissues in the body, so it is very possible for a recent piercing to close up partially over night. sure it won't be a complete seal but it will block the hole to prevent the ring or accesory from going through.

If it's recent enough to not have healed yet, it's not a good idea to take it out now - an infection could occur that may turn into an abcess if it closes up.

As most people have said though, if it's a healed, older piercing it won't close right away. It will shrink quite a lot in the first week or so, but it may be a while before it is completely healed over. Of course, everybody is different in this!

I thought tissues in the eye and digestive tract were the fastest healing.

It is a few years I think.

So what should I be worried about??? If I take it out and it doesn't heal closed then what happens if I get something stuck in the hole???

It will probably fester and your head will swell like a pumpkin.... <joking>

You may want to swish with salt dissolved in warm water twice daily. If you are concerned with infection. But if it was done a while ago it is unlikely it will become infected while closing over/healing. Wouldn't that be more likely for infection to happen close to time of piercing if the body doesn't like the piercing/metal itself.

I've had my tongue piercing for about 5 years.

I've never left it out for very long since I got it but I don't think it would close up overnight. I don't think you'd have to worry about anything getting stuck in the piercing hole, things just don't tend to travel into it when you have the barbell out. I have had food things get into the piercing while I've been eating but you usually notice right away because it's uncomfortable and feels funny.

I think it will probably take a while to fully close... Instead of salt (because salt gargles make me gag) you can use mouthwash watered down to about 1/4 strength to keep the piercing clean. I use it every day still even after about 5 years with my tongue pierced.

Why are you getting rid of your piercing? I think I would have a hard time adjusting to life without it now.

Just over it now. I proved that I could get it.

Now not really wanting it in my mouth anymore. thats the only reason why.
