The only people who haven't heard of this are hermits living in the Tibetan Himalayas and Stone Age tribemen from New Guinea who don't have televisions. I gather it's even a source of jokes in Antarctica.

Oh, and here's some fun and frolics related to this ...

Cheney's Got A Gun!

Enjoy ...

Gimme a break....the Clinton admin was just as secretive if not more than the Bushies. Check out why I say that:

[link]http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,185468,00.html [/link]

It was an accident and already the conspiracy theories abound. I submit that it was the second gunman on the grassy knoll that shot that guy instead of Cheney.

With the political rancor going on in this country right now Cheney could have hit that guy with a spit wad and the leftist media would have given him ****.

I say "gimme a break"

first let me say i am no clinton apologist. i was enamored by him in 1992, but by 1996 i thought he was a big joke. *BUT* there is no comparison to the monica lewinsky scandal and cheney's inaccuracies. first of all, whether or not clinton had an affair should really not be the subject of a grand jury investigation. ken starr was *supposed* to be investigating the money the clinton's were supposed to have made on whitewater, and when that turned up nothing, he kept digging until he could find *something* against clinton. secondly, posting an anti-clinton article from fox news is like asking a cheerleader for school X what they think about school X. of course they're going to post editorials about how bad clinton was. that's pretty much how they became such a popular news station to begin with. if bill clinton suddenly died next week they would lose half their editorial staff.

what do you say to that? oh sorry, didn't mean to shoot you! i promise it won't happen again!, and if anyone else knows anything about hunting, when your hunting bird (pheasant, grouse, quail) the way your supposed to walk is in a pattern to prevent people from getting shot, and a specific person is to shoot.

what do you think he said? "oooh thats gotta hurt"? i couldent really say anything if i accidentally just shot my friend.

I'm just saying.....find me a man who has no skeletons in his closet and I guarantee...he's never been in public office.

This whole thing has been blown way out of proportion for political embarassment, and it's a shame.....funny, nobody seemed to make such a big deal out of ole' fat, drunk Teddy Kennedy killing that poor girl at Chappaquidick.

well, as i recall, they *did* make a big deal out of ted kennedy's situation. *almost* as big a deal as they've made out of this situation with cheney. there's no denying that every politician has things they'd rather nobody knew about. but the way cheney and the white house handled the whole affair would have come off terribly no matter *who* did it. but the fact that it was cheney, who is part of a white house which seems to have something to hide all the time makes it a bigger deal than it probably needed to be.

I doubt if anyone would have made any less of it if he had gone on TV biting his lip and mock crying 5 seconds after it happened. Please....with the political climate in this country anything those two do gets put electron microscope, and it's always a scandal.....everybody loves a scandal. Especially when they're trying to get the eyes off of their own scandals. "Those living in glass houses shouldn't throw stones."

"I'm just saying.....find me a man who has no skeletons in his closet and I guarantee...he's never been in public office."

Show me a person with no skeletons in his closet and I'll show you a person with no closet.

As far as I'm concerned, every elected official has made mistakes, whether they meant to or not. Many of them were not mistakes at the time, but became so later on. When the media or enemies want to make you look bad, they can. Even non-incidents can be made to look like screw ups. There's no escaping the fact that bad things happen, none of our Presidents have been perfect. Every single one messed up.

In recent history, every President has been embarrassed by something they or others below them did wrong. How much coverage they received has depended on the scale of the error and the political climate at the time. People howled for President Ford's head after he pardoned Richard Nixon. President Carter had his hostage crisis and all the fun with the economy that was blamed on him. President Reagan had Iran-Contra. President George H.W. Bush was criticized for leaving Saddam Hussein in power and for his position change on raising taxes. I'm sure everybody knows all about the goofs of Presidents Clinton and George W. Bush. Nobody will let them forget, least of all the media. Maybe we expect a perfect candidate to reach the White House, but that's not going to happen any time soon.

Maybe this Cheney "incident" is being overplayed. But I think that with the vast numbers of journalists and pseudojournalists out there, it was bound to be. What better is there to report right now than a shooting involving the Vice President? If your news group doesn't cover it as much as the rival news group, you're going to lose viewers. I don't think it's as much about the politics of the situation as the financial realities: Ratings equal dollars.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I couldn't agree with you more Sirbrooks!! You know, it occurs to me that before the age of instant information and electronic media just imagine what past Presidents could pull and get away with.

I'm thinking those guys probably had the Arlington National Cemetary of skeletons in their closets!!

Of course it gets put under a microscope, it should! There is no other check or balance in our goverment right now other than the media without them who knows what would happen.

Oh yeah, right....the media is the check and balance for the government. If so, I want to live in another country. The media these days makes up stories if they can't find the one they want....there's been WAY too many examples of that in the last couple of years.

I'm not saying elected officials shouldn't be scrutinized, but I think some things get taken too far....especially by the media.

Oh, and ummmm.....Cheney went on record taking sole blame for shooting the gentleman so what fishkid99 just said is another example of why the media is not the check and balance for anything.....they get too much wrong!!! How many pundits were put on that said it was the victim's fault and not Cheney's? The Administration never said that, but I guess they will get blamed for it as usual.

now *that* is true all over this country. the media will always blow everything up out of proportion if it means that people will watch/read/download their product. i also think that there is something about the average american that has this need to go into overkill mode about so many things

anyway, the lady who owned the ranch said it was whittington's fault, but cheney spoke out a few days later and took responsibility for his actions. so the media didn't exactly get it wrong, they were given a story which they believed to be true and the witnesses changed their minds or whatever happened.

Ummmm....yeah, that's why I'm saying the media is in no way, shape, or form the "check and balance" of anything in this country.....that's not their function. Their job is to simply report facts to the public.

Just to let y'all know....I live about 80 miles south of the ranch where this happened, and the lady that owns that ranch is not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer if you know what I'm saying. If the media would have bothered to check with real hunting experts (some did) they would have all been saying it is the shooter's responsibility to make sure the field is clear before taking the shot.....no matter how tasty the quail look. Cheney's fault, no doubt, but the conspiracy theories.....give me a break....they get more far fetched as they go along.

I would have to agree, it is the shooters responsibility to look beyond his/her target so they don't shoot anyone. I also believe that it is everyones responsibility to know where your hunting partners are at all times, that way you won't get shot yourself.

I have to say here that I'm proud of how our first political discussion went on this forum. I mean, yeah, there was some disagreement, but nothing ugly or hateful....in fact, I think some good points were made by others that I didn't agree with totally. Good job y'all!!
