You're all going to love this ... a newspaper headling entitled, wait for it:

UNICEF BOMBS THE SMURFS

No, you did NOT misread that ... and to prove it, here is the link:

Newspaper Article

The purpose of this apparently surreal news item is actually rather serious (as a quick read will reveal), but one of the wackier outcomes of this newspaper headline has been a flurry of web activity in blogs and on various forums, asking where the video clip can be found, frequently accompanied by assorted schadenfreude comments along the lines of "Yay! Someone's Bombed The Smurfs!"

I'll leave you all to enjoy this little snippet. Choose among yourselves whether to dwell upon the serious issues or milk the headline for all its comic worth.

i saw that article before, but i think one of the wackiest headlines i ever saw was about the quarterback jim harbaugh after he had suffered a groin injury:

Harbaugh puts his tender groin through a light workout

The British newspaper The Sun has come up with some crackers over the years. I think one of the most memorable headlines was when a politician called Paddy Ashdown was caught having an affair. The headline reads ...

Paddy Pantsdown!

Or when George Michael was caught in the toilet with a police officer ...

Zip me up before you Go-go!

Genius! Oldies but goodies!

The New York Post has a write up on the Smurf thing today too... the headline reads:

b]SMURF-AGEDDON

HORROR IN 'LA-LA' LAND
Ka-blue-y! Beloved 'toons bombed in TV ad

Then they have a picture that has Baby Smurf crying and Smurfette laying face down with only one shoe on next to him. There is a Smurf with his head smoking in the backround and one laying face down by a building on fire.

Very disturbing...

I saw a few screen captures from it. It is disturbing but I think it's an excellent way to get attention for a great cause. Not something you want small children seeing but I think it really drives their message home. for them.

VERY disturbing. . . I guess it gets the point across although, I don't understand a word of it. haha

The scene at the end with Baby Smurf crying is the still shot that I was trying to explain before.
