Think of all the dust you'll be stirring up. Totally outlandish.

"kinda makes you wonder how man ever survived for a few million years w/o it."

Its not a matter of A/C users needing to survive. Its about living in a house thats comfortable and how far you are willing to go to be environmentally friendly. A/C use is only a small part of the problem the environment faces. I sympathize with people who need the A/C, not everyone can live in 100F and be happy. My young sister was miserable when we were with out it and in turn made us miserable too. Some people need A/C, every summer I hear reports of elderly people dying because they can't afford it. Community centers go so far as to offer it during the summer to prevent this from happening. Just like extreme cold, extreme heat can be deadly if your not up to it.

To be quite honest the effects of AC use are not at the top of my list of environmental things to be concerned about. Im much more worried about deforestation, habitat loss, superfund sites, toxic mine runoff, etc.

I'll do graffiti,
If you sing to me in French.

the issue wasn't comfort, it was neccessity. No one absolutely positively without a doubt NEEDS air conditioning. Sure, it's nice to be comfortable, but it's far past what's actually essential.

i think there are cases of a/c being necessary, but for the most part i think it is not necessary.

Lol katieb , global warming and climate change IS the biggest threat to the planet,( unless you count some idiot pressing the nuclear button) deforestation is intrinsically linked to the issue of pollution and carbon gas emissions, and if global warming gets worse a lot of trees will die en masse anyway, hence increasing the problem.

Well, whirlybirds are going up now...

Can I brag about those without copping a hiding?

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Whirlybirds are not necessary. The snow in your city will only clog them!

We just built houses that had better thermic properties built in. Crap housing promotes the use of a/c. In a well designed house it should be an irrelevance. We had houses when I lived in Ghana that didnt have a/c , and they were perfectly cool.

I completely understand your A/C Excitement Calla. . . I was so uncomfortable at the start of the summer that i wasn't sleeping. I stalled as much as possible before putting the A/C and finally I gave up.

And on a side note - for my own personal reasons. . .I think that A/C is absolutely essential!!

Tonight: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low near 9. Wind chill values between -2 and 3. West wind between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

The kitchen. Heat no need apply.
