Bettas and cories.

I think it started around third or fourth grade... we had a red betta in the classroom, and I got to take it home when school let out for summer, because my mom kept fish and we could put him in our tank. I really don't remember much about him, though...

I remember cories winking at me, which always delighted me to no end. We had albinos in one tank and some spotted cories in the other... no sure which species offhand.

The first fish I personally kept was a betta and I've never been without one since then. In fact, for the better part of the time (about two and a half years), bettas have outnumbered any other fish I've had. I particularly like the betta girls... they're more fun, and generally community friendly.

Bettas and cories comprise the majority of my fish.

Staring at my parents tank when I was a kid, until all of a sudden I had a little tank of my own with 2 guppys.

That started a hobby that would resurface again and again over the years.. Slowly I turned into the fish and plant addicted freak you now know as DaFishMan..

a classmate kept melanochromis auratus and ps. zebra in a 12 gal.
I loved them at first glance, but when I started keeping fish myself, app. 2 weeks later, I took on barbs and never stopped keeping those.

I've never kept malawis and I doubt I ever will ...

I would agree with all of them. I would love to be able to keep the larger fish, such as clown knife, but sadly I can't at the moment.

Actually it was an empty tank that made me start keeping fish. I'm still having problems with that to this day.

*wonders what to put in that empty 20G*

my brother had a betta when we were in high school (long time ago), a year and a half ago I decided I wanted to get one and that started my obsession.

my brother bought a large aquarium and it looked so cool that I wanted one too. I also needed something to take my mind off wanting a dog so desperately.

In the house I grew up in (lived there 23yrs ) my dad had a 55g built into the basement wall that always had angels, neons, and black mollies. I was most impressed with the neons, their colors and schooling behavior.

When I got my first tank I wanted neons but I was repeatedly told they were very sensitive so it wasn't until earlier this year that I finally bought some

I've almost always had an angel in one of my tanks. For whatever reason I end up with very personable angels that like to be hand fed & such.

I did try mollies but I wasn't too impressed

I always wanted a fish tank since I was little. When I was over at my bother-inlaws and saw his new tank and fish, that push me over the wanting to getting line.
