It really depends where you purchase your fish in Australia. Oscars are very cheap around my area. Big ones prob $50? L114s...about 15cm was like $500 or something similar?

The most I've ever paid for a fish is $7.99 each for my blue rams and my gold rams.

I'd pay much more for a betta though.....but I'm just not willing to pay the shipping fees!!

Most expensive "fish" in my tank is an invert: my singapore wood shrimp was 6.99.

My angels would be next around $6.50/ea. I do have $10+ rainbows that I got for $1.59/ea because the sales clerk wasn't paying attention to the UPC number he wrote on my sales slip.. so they don't count.

Probably my idiotic purchase of a blue mbuna and some other mbuna. i had studied up on goldfish and bought a whole seprate tank setup and everything. i went to my LFS and siad "whats your hardiest aggressive fish?" and they pointed me to their african cichlid tank and siad "They are $15 apiece" so i spent $30 on a pair of fish that died two weeks later cus i did'nt know a thing about their care requirements (at the time). So there you have it! my dumbest and most expensive fish of all time (so far)

P.S. i now know a ton about cichlids

"I'm from Leicester and Panda corys are £2.95 a pop... And I've just bought 5 Cory Sterbai for just under £20! Zebra Plecs are £10.95."

A better question would be where the hell you buy your fish. 10 pounds for a zebra plec is unheard of. I highly doubt this claim. Perhaps you are thinking of a different fish.

Just checked out planetcatfish.com and I think it must have been an L114 that was $1200.00. Anyway fish are expensive over here, even if you are buying natives (unless you want Barra, but why would you want to).

6-8cm Silver Aro @ $180

The funny thing is that i didnt mention how many of these fish i bought...just say i spent alot of $$ then made lots after i sold them to retailers in the country

How the heck can you afford those fish? IIRC, you're still a student. Also, how goes the pond?

My Peppermint BN was $30.00Aussie dollars, but normally $50.00 and at some places $75.00. I got it for $30 because we bought 2 eheim filters there. 2nd most would be my schwartzi corys for around $15.00 each I think.

My 19 clown loaches and Denizon Barbs. The clowns average at Rs. 350 a pair, thats about Rs. 175 each, which is $3.5. I dont know how much they wld cost relatively in the US. The biggest are over 4 inches in size now.

The other most expensive fish I own is a pair of Denizon Barbs at Rs. 170 each, again, close to $3.5. Heard they are like 30 pounds in the US.

Have one full size black female angel which is short trimmed skirt. Her mate died. The breeding pair cost me $5 in all.

The best buy was a Synodontis Eupterus (featherfin) sold to me @ $14.00 Aus. Was suppose to have been a young Cuckoo Synodontis. Now this fish is worth $150.00. What a bargain

The most expensive fish I have is probably my Frontosa.

Also the Electric Blue I had was worth a bit, but I traded it in for the frontosa because it had aggression problems.

My most expensive fish to date would be my albino BN plec. And he was a whole twelve bucks, I think. Next runners up are the panda cories at $7.99. I'm a cheapskate.

My 'Golden Red Eye Pleco' which I believe is a Pterygoplicthus scrophus... Cost NZ$35 (Around US$25). :-) Looks just like a regular Pleco but with yellow/pinkish skin and bright pink eyes. :-) I'd attach a photo but my water is embarassingly dusty :-P

People from Australia and New Zealand would most likely pay the most for a fish like plecos because of import laws. Most americans can get some of the plecos that you pay 80 to 100 dollars for 30-50 dollars. My most expensive fish was my royal plec for about 35$. I also have a wild cuckoo catfish that was 22 but that was online, It would have been about 60 around here at the lfs.
