My Peppermint BN was $30.00Aussie dollars, but normally $50.00 and at some places $75.00. I got it for $30 because we bought 2 eheim filters there. 2nd most would be my schwartzi corys for around $15.00 each I think.

My 19 clown loaches and Denizon Barbs. The clowns average at Rs. 350 a pair, thats about Rs. 175 each, which is $3.5. I dont know how much they wld cost relatively in the US. The biggest are over 4 inches in size now.

The other most expensive fish I own is a pair of Denizon Barbs at Rs. 170 each, again, close to $3.5. Heard they are like 30 pounds in the US.

Have one full size black female angel which is short trimmed skirt. Her mate died. The breeding pair cost me $5 in all.

The best buy was a Synodontis Eupterus (featherfin) sold to me @ $14.00 Aus. Was suppose to have been a young Cuckoo Synodontis. Now this fish is worth $150.00. What a bargain

Ours would have to be the Cuckoos (Cuckoo Catfish, Multi-spotted Synodontis) @ $35.00 Aus each.

The most expensive fish I have is probably my Frontosa.

Also the Electric Blue I had was worth a bit, but I traded it in for the frontosa because it had aggression problems.

My most expensive fish to date would be my albino BN plec. And he was a whole twelve bucks, I think. Next runners up are the panda cories at $7.99. I'm a cheapskate.

My 'Golden Red Eye Pleco' which I believe is a Pterygoplicthus scrophus... Cost NZ$35 (Around US$25). :-) Looks just like a regular Pleco but with yellow/pinkish skin and bright pink eyes. :-) I'd attach a photo but my water is embarassingly dusty :-P

People from Australia and New Zealand would most likely pay the most for a fish like plecos because of import laws. Most americans can get some of the plecos that you pay 80 to 100 dollars for 30-50 dollars. My most expensive fish was my royal plec for about 35$. I also have a wild cuckoo catfish that was 22 but that was online, It would have been about 60 around here at the lfs.

Dear Calilasseia

Where the bloody hell in England do you by your fish??!!!!

I'm from Leicester and Panda corys are £2.95 a pop... And I've just bought 5 Cory Sterbai for just under £20! Zebra Plecs are £10.95.

I can only assume your from London where such prices may be deemed to be more acceptable?!

... £12 for A Sterbai Cory - good golly you almost gave me a heart attack!

Abid

You can definitely get the cuckoos in Australia. In Melbourne full grown are really really expensive, (up to $250 each) But if you are looking at around 2" then they are about $40 I think. Mediums at around 4-5" are about $60.

Lots o' good looking fishies in this thread.

Don't laugh, but my most expensive fish has been a Dwarf Blue Gourami.

I just recently purchased a dozen cherry red shrimp for $31.00, if that helps.

I don't think any of my fish were over $10.00 Even not-frequently-seen fish that I have were lucky finds.

I guess I make up for it in quantity though

TigerAngel, are the Cuckoo Catfish rare in Australia? I wouldn't mind buying one, and i would have to get it from a store out of Rocky, because i doubt they will stock them. So yea are they hard to find around your neck of the woods?

cheers

oops also my most expensive fish atm is the butterfly fish i got recently $35 it was. Nothing much, but yea. Hopefully getting a blackghost, and maybe a Cuckoo Catfish if i can grab my hands on one

My most expensive fish are my Panda Corys. They're £8 each (around $15.50 US) here in the UK, which is why I built up the stock piecemeal.

Most expensive freshwater fish I've seen face to face at a dealers' establishment was a juvenile L046 Hypancistrus zebra. A 1½ long juvenile was a whopping £70, and that was two years ago. Now, I've been told to expect to pay £120 or more for a similar specimen.

Most expensive fish of all I've ever seen face to face was a Royal Empress Angelfish Pygoplites diacanthus back in the days when this was a public aquarium only fish. It was part of the Liverpool Museum public aquarium stock around 10-15 years ago, and back then cost them something like £2,500. Needless to say, they spent quite a bit of money making sure that fish stayed alive! But it did have a 1,000 gallon aquarium to call 'home' ...

For comparison, cheapest fish species in my locality are Neons, White Clouds and Zebra Danios. All of these are around 60p per fish. Most expensive I've contemplated buying (but decided to go for the Pandas instead) were Corydoras sterbai, which were priced at a whopping £12 each. On my current restricted income, that's a lot to spend on a single fish.

sneaky_pete, Featherfin rare? NO - Just a going phase.
Just like the Clown Fish in Finding Nemo. Before the movie they where cheap, after the movie the price went up because they became popular.
Mine is fully grown now, and adults bring in $150.00. Not that I would part with him/her. ***Tiger.

P.S BTW I love your fishys..

my most expensive fish was the BN, and it died 2 days after... ph shock i think... and the shop was far away, so i didnt bother go get another one.

from where i came from(taiwan) about 8 years ago, i remeber seeing a swordtail (regular) for about 5 cents US dollars, and a full size angel for less than $3.00 US, makes me sad...

and i saw this video on native amazon hunters, they catch fish and sell them to dealers for so cheap, i think it was 1000 neons for $2 US, but again, we are just bunch maniacs what do we know about money
