Dearest Cory,

This is the first time that I have read this thread.

I think for every person who has lost an animal whether through death or otherwise, your story touches our hearts. When I read your first posts I was sobbing with absolute joy for you and your cat. After six years apart, she found you again.

To be able to hold her and look into her eyes after such a long time, and a time when you had mourned her death and thought you would never see her again, I just couldn't imagine the emotions you would have been feeling.

To hear that she has passed on, it breaks my heart and I wish I could give you the biggest hug. It must be such a hard time for you. To have her back in your life only to loose her again, it is just so sad!!

But, I also believe that you are both so lucky, to have had that time you did together and to be there with her as she passed on. For her to know that you loved her and missed her all those years and for you to know the same. I know you would have spoiled her rotten. Your lucky she was able to find you in time, and now you know where she is.

I send you my biggest hugs.

Wow, 6 years??? Thats amazing! I hope she settles back in with you quickly.

Maybe there is hope for my dog that disappeared nearly two years ago.

Here are some pictures of her from a long time ago. I still get really choked up when I look at them.

I can't believe it... She's twelve years old now.

Wow.... That is unbelievable. I have heard of animals finding their owners after being lost for a long time but never actually "knew" someone who's had it happen for them. Congrats and enjoy every second with her (but I'm sure you will).

Six years ago when I moved to the city I currently live in, the cat I had since I was a small child got outside and ran away. I never saw her again, and it was one of, if not the, most devastating events in my life. Her name was Rosie, and I remember crying on pretty much a daily basis for about a year after it happened because I missed her so much.

Today I was at the mall doing some birthday shopping for my mom, when she called me. At first I was annoyed because I wanted my shopping trip to be a secret, but then she said "Natalie, the Humane Society found Rosie". I was in disbelief and I couldn't talk for about 10 seconds. As soon as I tried to say anything, I broke out in tears.

"Are you sure?"

"How do they know it's her?"

"It can't be her!"

It was her. After we had got her in the early nineties, we had a microchip put in her because all outdoor cats have to have one in our county; it's the law. Somebody found her and brought her in to our county's Humane Society, but we did not find out where she was found. The Humane Society called the number on our chip, which was to the house we hadn't lived in in six years. The people who live in the house now gave them our current home phone number, and they called there.

They said she was healthy but pretty skinny. We are going to pick her up tomorrow, which is going to be very emotional for me. I wonder if she will remember me after all this time. I wonder where she was and what she was doing during all this time, and how come nobody found her before.

All of this is still a bit much for me... I'm in shock. Before I got the call I was starving... Now I can't eat anything. It's hard for me to concentrate and talk.

AWWWWWWWW that's just amazing *blinks back tears*

I love the pic of her and the wagon, reminds me of one of the cats I grew up with (she's the last one left out of the cats we had )
It's amazing that she was found after 6 years ! Give her a big hug from me!
And then you can go sell your story to animal planet, or dizzy or the microchip maker :%).

Congratulations, it seems like a miracle. Please post some pictures of her now. Maybe someone else took her in and it took her a while to escape again?

We went and picked her up today at about 10:30...

We left the Humane Society at about 11:00, and we took her straight to the vet for a quick checkup. They want her to fatten up a bit at home before they do any work on her.

She was in worse condition than I expected... Not only is she very skinny, but she's also extremely dehydrated and anemic. She has a small tumor under her tongue that will be operated on once she gets a bit better. She also has an abscess in her mouth that makes it very difficult for her to eat, when she does she gets food (or water if she's drinking) all over her face.

The good thing is that I'm positive she remembers me. As soon as I let her out of the carrier in my room, she started rubbing against my legs and begging to be pet. She is old and grumpy now, though, so I am only petting her when she wants it, and she snapped at me when I accidentally touched the place where she had a blood sample taken. It will be a lot of work getting her healthy and happy again, but I'm going to give it my best shot.

Here are some pictures of her. She is all wet because she drank a bunch of water before I took the pictures and got it all over her face and chest. It's all still very surreal to me, and it still hasn't quite soaked in that I have my cat back.

I will update this thread with more pictures as she improves.

Awwww you are so lucky! Most cats that get lost around here get killed by coyotes. For her to survive six years roughing it, you have one very tough kitty!

We have tons of coyotes around here too, as well as raccoons, bobcats, and foxes. Before yesterday I honestly thought that she was dead.

It's unbelievable...

Wow. I'm really happy for you. It's incredible that she was able to survive on her own for this long, that is definitely one tough kitty (and she has the scars to prove it). I hope you can get her healthy again, it's amazing to see the difference between the pics from before you lost her compared to the pics from now. She looks like she has been through a lot. Congratulations and good luck with her, I'm sure you'll enjoy spoiling her even more now. That story brought tears to my eyes too.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

And I forgot to mention that when we had her weighed at the vet's office, she only weighed about five pounds. That's a little over two kilos I think.

Before she ran away she weighed eleven pounds.

:#(:#(:#(:#(:#(Cory, I'm glad you got her home, and that all in all she is in good shape...I know at the end when I was trying to get Simba to eat on his own, and when I was trying to get him better, I actually bought canned kitten foods to make it easier for him to eat...and I'd give him chicken and beef broth, to get him to drink more, and the salt content in them helped to dry out the absesses (sp?) in his mouth...just somethings you might think of that definately helped...There was also the fact that I would even just boil an egg and chop it fine...I know you don't want to overly spoil her now, but anything to help get the weight back on her...I'm so glad that she is home safe with you...love her and care for her as much as she will allow you to, eventually she will be almost back to where she was when you lost her, though the "wildness" she had to develop won't ever entirely leave her...heidi

EDIT: Leslie just reminded me of how I had to feed Simba when I had him. I asked the vet for a syringe (without needle) and then be able to syringe feed her if she will let you. There is also a very high in nutrients cat food that the vet can sell you (it's not cheap, but it's good), and it looks like bean dip when it's opened. Also another thought if the vet hasn't given you a certain diet to put her on to help her gain the weight she needs to gain, you might try the kitten milk you can buy at a pet store...all just thoughts...I'm so glad you have her, I wish I could have my Simba back so bad somedays and this is one of them:#(
