And to think he began as a small fry at one time...I didn't read the whole thingdid it say how old they estimate him/her to be?

As neat as it is to have caught him, it's kind of sad at the same time that the largest freshwater fish ever has been caught

Oh heck, my emotions are topsy turvy...

Let's just say I don't think that "little guy" will fit in a 125 gallon, much less a 10 gallon

I disagree with letting a fish like that go as 9/10 fish that are caught and let go die soonly after. Generally the younger the fish the better chance of surving. This fish was obviously very old so it probably would have died a couple of days later anyway.

IMO, since the fish is a member of a critically endangered species, they need all the help they can get.

but look at where it was.

a remote villiage in thiland, who knows how many people live there, and what their food status is.

As far as I am concerned, as long as that fish was eaten, it probably fed the entire villiage, which, they may not even see a decent meal every day.

You never know what their food status is, so as long as it isn't going to waste, thats fine by me.

And as someone said, even if it was released, maybe the stress of it being hauled ashore and then photographed, etc and then being released back into the wild would have stressed it out.

Just like whales and dolphins, the way water is makes the weight less in water than would it be on land, so whats to say the sheer weight of this cat its internal organs were affected by the time spent on land?
