dave, I'm starting to think you might be one of the most together people on here, if a tad insensitive at times!

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions

actually, not only do red tails get 9ft, but they are supposed to get up to 12-15ft depending on gender

Haha... My snake shed today. I was wondering why he was hiding underneath his water bowl all day.

Here are some pictures... Notice how "fresh" he looks compared to the pictures I took yesterday.

FishyHelper - That is an awesome garter snake. They do indeed tend to be pretty aggressive though...

Thanks for the comments.

natalie, how long have you had that snake that he's only shed once?? my boa sheds roughly every 2-3 months, but of course he's still growing

I captured him in March, I believe, and he shed in mid-April. Kingsnakes are different than boas, though; once they reach about three feet they only shed three or four times a year under normal conditions.

Milksnakes are hard to tame, and some individuals cannot be tamed entirely no matter how much you hold them. They are best left in their cage to be watched.

Kingsnakes (very closely related to milksnakes), however, are naturally very tame and rarely bite.

The kingsnake I own as a pet I found as a 36" adult about two miles away from my house when I was hiking. When I picked him up and carried him back to the car, he never once tried to bite.

He tamed very quickly and is now completely unafraid of humans and cats (my sister's cat likes to sit next to his cage and watch him). He also fed without any resistance whatsoever, eating three fuzzy mice only two weeks after his capture (and that was my first attempt at feeding him too). After a few weeks of getting live mice, I offered him some frozen mice. To my suprise, he ate them just as readily as the live mice.

He's shed once since I got him, I think because he's a lot thicker now than when I found him.

The thought of taming an adult wild-caught milksnake though is just horrifying...

I'm going to visit Steve Irwin's zoo and get this picture signed by him.

Irwin is an embarassment to Australia and he's a very arrogant man, possibly even more so than me.

nice disclaimer there dave

on the original subject, i would never ever ever keep any animal that could kill me outright. something that might take me in a fight is a different story...
