Ok, i think we've all voiced our opinions....

Enough with the personal attacks, just because someone's got a particular style of typing doesn't mean they're stupid.

"i probly know more about animals and species than most of you"

You can barely spell and your grammar is laughable. Which is most likely why people here talk to you like you know less. Your posts look like they've been written by a seven year old.

Let the poor thing go. Like Superlion said you picked one of the worst North American mammals to keep and you don't even have a good reason for keeping it. Besides we need all the native animals we can get.

Edit: Typing everything incorrectly and incoherently isn't a style of posting, its butchering the English language. She asked why some posters talked down to her and I gave her a honost answer. There is a reason we are taught spelling and grammar for 12 years straight, why newspapers have editors and proofreaders, and why Word has spellchecker. Would you buy a textbook that had severe spelling errors and no punctuation on every page? I realize this is a more laidback setting, but Fishyhelper is an extreme example.

That coming from someone who can't tell the difference between voles and shrews, which look completely different to anyone with basic animal knowledge.

You still haven't explained why you're keeping the shrew.

The chipmunk has probably found some sort of food in your garage, and you need to remove it. Chipmunks are omnivorous, so they will even try to get into things like dog and cat food if they can. If you do catch it, for God's sake don't keep it.

That still doesn't explain why you're trying to keep the shrew...

Shrews (yours is Blarina brevicauda) are notorious for stressing out to the point they just keel over. That, and being extremely vicious for their size. You should not be keeping any wild mammal, especially without tetanus and rabies vaccines (ie for yourself). Shrews are one species group that should not be kept in captivity for any reason. And if I'm not mistaken, they're the only mammals with a venomous bite. *looks up in lab manual* Yep, short-tailed shrews have a venomous saliva, which with its bite could cause intense pain and swelling that could last several days. Shrews also have an extremely high metabolic rate, so it'll need to eat 1/2-2/3 of its body weight in insects, worms, and possibly small vertebrates each day. I think of all north american mammals under five pounds, you've found the worst possible one to keep at home! Congratulations. Now go let it go.

You mean a life and death strugle for the rodent and amusement for you and your father? I don't see how the chipmunk could POSSIBLY be doing anything harmful enough to warrant death. Let it be.

apparently they dont much like eachother

i woke up a 5am, and went to check my temp live trap (squirrel broke the good one) but i improvised with a mixing bowl instant results although i have a live vole in my 29 gallon terrarium...it is a murderer..it did have a buddy, but i found him dead in the bowl..and evidence that the live shrew went snacking

hmm, excuse me..but i identified it wrong...

not sure what it is yet...

oh, and its a very long story of why i am trapping rodents...and it involves a life and death struggle..a chipmonk vs. my dad im trying to save it...

but its not like i just threw it in a cage, i filled up the bottom with 7in of dirt, but approx 50 earthwoms in there, planted the top with grasses, and i bought some tunnels for it, it is actually realy happy tunnels everywhere.

if it was unhappy or stressed, dont u think i would let it go?

and im also studdying it closely, i do not touch it, i just care for it and enjoy it for what it is

A vole is a type of short-tailed mouse, usually active at nighttime. They greatly prefer to live in grassy fields rather than forests and buildings, hence their alternative name "meadow mice".

What on earth does one of these things look like?

(and wish access to chinchillas, I don't know why you'd want a wild small&furry)

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Voles are generally getting rarer in the wild than they used to be, let it go.

I agree, go buy a mouse if you really want a rodent.

Let it go.

Voles are native animals and keeping them in captivity, which stresses them out immensely, only leaves a niche open for non-native, invasive rats and mice to fill.
