In NC only those silly sparklers are allowed, but right across the border in SC its all legal. and they know many customers are from NC so they conveniently place many firework stores near the border so those coming from charlotte NC can just hop across the border and be back home in less than an hour with as many fireworks as one pleases to entertain oneself.

can't edit my post, so here's more

idn't every neighbourhood have a kid who blew his hand off in a copper bomb

My mate actually blew his finger off with a roman candle. He had 14 operations to rebuild the hand, using skin from his thighs.

I also had a lit firecracker hit me in the leg when i was a kid, and still have a scar.

my bf is a bit of a pyro (with an explosives licence) and has been trying for ages to get me comfortable with lighting fireworks. I still wibble though!!

I remember going around collecting a "penny for the guy" and collecting wood and such for a massive bonfire with fireworks and black peas, the whole town would get involved and have just a great night

Bonfires are fine, it's just fireworks. I've just realised, it's Cat III's which are still permitted for "amateurs" and cat IV's require a licence. Most mortars are Cat. IV's, shells, etc.
The law now states that no person under 18 can buy or posess fireworks.

I was under the impression that the US was much more relaxed on its firework laws, I am amazed about the restrictions!!

Taken from the article about "Safe and Sane" fireworks...

What is an illegal firework?

A good rule of thumb is if it goes up in the air, darts across the ground or explodes, it's dangerous and illegal.

Um, that pretty much rules out anything I would consider to be a firework.

Fireworks are 100% illegal here in California, no exceptions unless you are setting up a public show that has been authorised by the state.

That is not true. It varies my city and county. You can buy safe and sane fireworks in some cities. Roseville is one such city http://www.roseville.ca.us/fire/fire_prevention/fireworks_enforcement.asp

I also grew up in southern CA where they are legal in Fillmore.

So i wouldn't rule out that the whole state says that they are illegal.

Haha... As is shooting off the huge show-quality ones and whistling bottle rockets a quarter mile away from a fire station (in a state where they are completely illegal).

I don't know, firing them from inside an apartment, out the open front door, across the rest of the apartment complex is pretty fun too...especially with Roman Candles...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

I'm sure it can't be more fun than shooting a giant flaming bottle rocket from your bare hands. Let's just say they're called bottle rockets for a reason.

Calla bunger burns on the pavement and lower leg... ah those were the days.

Didn't every neighbourhood have a kid who blew his hand off in a copper bomb... or an urban legend of one. 'possed to be a warning to us all. Worked, scared the heck out of me and the law makers by the looks of it.

They're illegal here in Massachusetts, but you can ride up to New Hampshire and buy some. We usually have big 4th of July parties, and get all kinds of party packs

we used to have 'cracker night' and a bonfire when I was a kiddie wink

Me too! I remember sitting on the back fence watching Dad running out to light them, and then thinking he hadn't, finding out that he had, and then pelting back to us on the fence as the thing went up

We got a bunch of bungers in 2000 from Fishwyck. We blew up everything we could find had a ball!

thats what we said to the lady cop as we pointed to my parents yard with all the trees.
She just shrugged and said they have to be on private property.

Here in Illinois, they're illegal. However, we have a lakehouse in Michigan... You know when you hit Indiana because you're bombarded by fireworks billboards along the highway. So... you buy them in Indiana and continue on your way to Michigan (they're cheaper in Indiana) to set them off.

On our lake, some private shows are better than the city-sponsered events. It's really quite fun... we go out on the pontoon boat, sit in the middle of the lake and just keep turning around. If there's not a few dozen shows of fireworks going on, I'd be surprised. It's quite a fun way to spend the evening, surrounded by darkness, on the water with just the lights on the shore and the fireworks in the sky...

the 4th of july is rapidly approaching. my fireworks stash is complete- nothing. the state of arizona has rightfully said that flammable devices in a drought stricken desert is a big no-no. even the city sponsered events have been scrubbed in the past due to drought conditions.

are fireworks legal in your state? if so- what are you getting and how much have you spent?

if you live outside the united states of america, at what times are fireworks used? can you legally own them?

This weekend is the long weekend that we celebrate the Queen's birthday. we used to have 'cracker night' and a bonfire when I was a kiddie wink. Outlawed for safety reasons. Now the long weekend doesn't have a distinctive feel to it... just a monday that we don't have to go to work.

Nice but I like fireworks .... ohhhh ahhhh. Wasn't everyone's mum's favourite the catherine wheel?

You must set off fireworks in your own small yard with many trees where it is not at all safe,

Pete? Wha'? Good idea, here hold this....

They're doing it in the UK, more and more things are being added to Cat 3 (display only)

Hi Tiny, does that mean that even bonfire night is controlled.
I remember going around collecting a "penny for the guy" and collecting wood and such for a massive bonfire with fireworks and black peas, the whole town would get involved and have just a great night, it was always planed months ahead of time. Off course that was quite a few years ago.
I remember many wonderful times on Nov/5th.
Tom.

If you live in Clark County Nevada, which includes Las Vegas, you can only buy safe and sane ones. Meanwhile, in the rest of the state, all the others are legal. Which makes no sense. So most people from Vegas drive 50 miles out of the county to purchase the others. I run a fireworks booth every year in Clark County, and you wouldn't believe how much money some people will spend!

They are allowed here mostly in Ontario, with a few exceptionally dangerous fireworks prohibited (firecrackers, cherry bombs, anything intended for practical jokes, etc.). If you are over 18 you can walk into your local convenience store or wal mart and pick up whatever you want. They are usually only sold around long weekends and holidays though.
