I name some of my fish. I used to give all my bettas Shakespearian names. Now, there's a little more variety.
Boyfriend's Betta- Speedy. Because he never moves.
My red betta- Ragnarok (the Norse apocalypse)
My old blue betta- Lucutas
My Blue and white cambodian betta- Rauros (elvish for "waterfall" because he hides near the bubbly waterfall)
My lilac and white betta- Thor
my firefish- Runya (elvish for "red flame"
My zebra angel- Celeborn (I had a koi angel named Galadriel but she died)
The rest of the fish don't have names (mostly because they're small, fast, and I can't tell 'em apart).

By the way, I think it's hilarious that "Firecracker" is an american ideal... *giggles*

I name some fish, one molly called Lucy, her sister Sparkle, Velvet the pleco, Tiny the Pleco, Mr Tiddles the Falseflying fox, the other mollies are all black and are just the Gang, big boy the guppy,

The clown loaches I don't name, I love them but they are so obviously a family I am sure they name each other! funny the things you think! well I think!

I dont see why you shouldnt, I personally dont because its bad luck it seems that if I name a fish they die it has happened too many times and now I no longer name fish.

Generally I don't name my fish, but I don't think it's crazy to do so. Of all of my fish only 3 have names, sort of. I've got a spotted bushfish I call Spot and 2 red headed eartheaters called Bob 1 and Bob 2 (because of my dad, a red head whose nickname is Bob).

Pfft... I name most of the fishies that are easily distinguished from other fish.

When I had a school of black neons, they had number names ... the only ones that were distinguishable were Six and Seven, though... the others just got named as they were counted. Seven died quickly (he had a torn up face when I got him, Six was a loner. Now that I'm down to two, the big female is One and the small male is Two, simply because the male hides and gets counted second.

My male bettas have "American Ideal" names starting with Liberty, Justice, and going down through a list with names such as Patriot, Freedom and Firecracker.

My female bettas are greek goddesses. I started with the Muses and some random goddesses and have just recently gotten the three Fates.

Hmm... okay, I need to name my cherry barbs now. The male is Bing (Bing cherry), but I just got two females for him today that need names.

I named some of my guppies, but haven't gotten around to naming all of them (plus I just got more today). Of my original trio, one female was Sunny, the other was Sun-in-Glory (Glory for short) and the male was Flame, I think. Of the three remaining female offspring, there's Miss Smarty Pants (eluded every attempt to catch her when I brought a slew of guppy girls into the LFS), Eclipse and Meteor. They're yellow snakeskins... looked very sunny to me! I've gotten a bunch not from my original trio, but haven't named everyone yet.

My first BN was albino... his name was Daffy Dilly (the silly). He passed away randomly and it was a long time before I got someone to take over his job. My new BN is named Tipsy because he's got white tips to his brown fins. He's bigger than Daffy ever got, which is strange because I had Daffy longer... perhaps there was something wrong with Daffy from the beginning.

I've left the cories for last. I've got twelve cories of seven different types. I call them my motley cory crew. Four trilines, one agassizii, one ambiacus (?), one panda, one mellini, one 'san juan', three aeneus 'long-finned'. The trilines are hard to keep apart... I call them all Joe. At first I had just two and there was a Joe Cat and a Little Joe. Now there's four and they're all the same size. The agassizii is Daddy cause he's the biggest. The ambiacus - which now looks identical to Daddy - is Izzy, because he was labelled as agazzi. I've had a total of eight pandas, Kanga is the lone survivor of the 100 acre woods gang... I had most of the major characters. The mellini thinks he's a panda, so he's Robin after Christopher Robin, because he's part of the story, but not an animal character. The san juan is El Ling Ling... story behind that is that my friend thought I was getting another panda, so named him Ling Ling... then found out he was really a san juan, so he added the "El" to the name. I just got the three aeneus today, so I'll have to name them later.

I like the idea of keeping a notebook on which fish was bought when/where, the name, and such... good idea... I'll have to start a record!

Mr Tiddles ?
That is one TOUGH name

Although I like animals I don't have any other pets. So I nickname and get attached to them sometimes, as you would any pet..

More of my fish had names before when I had larger fish like clowns, gouramis and oscars..

Still a couple with names left..

Large female platy born in the tank - "Zappy", this fish has alot of sentimental value to me. At least 3 years old now. Never have I seen such a fat fish swim so fast at feeding time. The rest of the time she's chillin in the cave, or slowly cruising the tank at her leisure...

"Samauri" - a male guppy, born in tank, selective bred, (I dubbed it my 'Zen Guppy', half psychadelic guppy, half 'fancy'. He fits the name quite well, is bold and has extra long flowing fins and tail. Like my Germam Blue Rams, he can flash purple. If I can get him to breed true, there will be a market.. Any fry born right now are ram food. If I had the room I'd get the guppys in there own tank..

No names yet for the apisto pair or 4 german blue rams. Usually with a fish I won't 'give it a name'. I'll wait for something in it's behavior or appearance to mark it as unique, then name it... Maybe I stopped naming fish, I dunno...

I had 2 clown loaches once, named Krusty, the other Pennywise.. Went with the clown theory..

The only fish I've named was sort of an accident. A few days after I added my little blue gourami and he had settled in he started flying around the tank. Sort of like YAY I have space. I told my boyfriend the fish had gone nuts and he randomly said pecans so the fish got named Pecan. Now he's 2 years old and refuses to share the 90g with any labyrinth fish except the tiny sparkling gouramis. I can't even convince him to like the opaline girlfriend I bought him.

I name ones who earn a name. Generally, I don't buy a fish and name it before i get home. I may have a fish for month before i give it a name IF i'm going to name it.

Usually its just the fish with personalitys or older fish that i name.

Chief, Cherokee and Little Bear = 3 BGKs
Some of our cichlids have boxing names like Holly, Tyson and Apollo (Creed), also Peaka, Killa, Clubba and names like that.
3 Plecs are Stoney, Nugget(chocolate) and Fiddy ($50) and the BNs are Floyd (muppets drummer), Mika and Squishy and the peppermint BN is GiGi (as in government grant...she cost alot of money and you never see where it goes)

There's many other nmaes for many other fish but they're the only ones I could think of at the moment :%)

One of my 3 clown loaches that died recently was my favourite and his name was Basil. I miss him a lot, but I think if I were to get him again, I would name him again, because it makes it so much easier for me to think of him and his antics in the tank.

I have names for a lot of my fish. I named the clowns after I learnt to recognize them from their markings. They are a bunch of similar looking fish and I have 18.

Basil - Clown (passed away)
Spotnik - Clown (passed away)
Bruce - Clown
Clooney (only Sumatran Clown named after George Clooney)
Calvin (youngest clown)
Patrick - Clown
Walter - Clown
Pooja Guy (named after aquarium we got him from. PG for short, biggest clown in tank)
Edward (Eddie for short, one of the biggest clowns in tank, also very regal in his ways)
Moondog - Clown

Baba - Black Convict
Missy - Black Angel
Dracula - Pl*co

I name my fish. I have only panda and pygmy cories, but instead of naming each one, I pick a name for the species and assign an exponent.

So my 5 panda cories are collectively named Poppy^5, and my 6 pygmy cories are collectively named Fezzik^6.

the only fish i have ever named is one of my first fry.

He was born with a terrible curved spine, he had one eye, and had hideous cancer blobs all over him.

I decided i felt so bad for him that i gave him a tank to himself and decided to let him live out his life as happily as he could...

His name his Cancer-fish. (go figure huh?)

anywho, he's now 7 months old, no more curved back, still one-eyed and covered in cancer, but just as happy as a clam. no pun intended.

If I do name some of my animals its usually in honour of the chap that either described them or first discovered them , hence I have an iguana named Sengoku.

Hey I think its cool , and it teaches you about the history of taxonomy.
