I'm stoked for Hockey to start. I can't believe I couldn't watch my Wings for a full year, after a dissapointing end to the Pistons season I coulda used a stanley cup. The Tigers are once again going nowhere fast although they have shown improvement. My Lions could be my breath of fresh air if everyone stays healthy, I think this is their year. Sucks about the NHL salary cap though, now Illitch can't go nuts and sign anybody we want, should be an interesting season.

Hehe, sorry. The Lions' year will be the year they drop Harrington as their starting QB. Also, three top 10 first round wide receivers? Can there be a bigger ego disaster brewing here? If they all stay healthy they'll have one, maybe 2 years of peace before one or two of them want out. You can't have three number one guys, unless Peyton Manning is your QB. Their D didnt look half bad last year though, much better than my Packers I dunno, the North is going to be a dogfight this year, at least in the first half.

Anyway, here's a quesiton: Who do you blame for the explosion in player salaries? Ya know, what was the first thing to set it off? I think it's a toss-up between The Rangers' offer to Sakic in I think '98, and when the Wings resigned Federov around the same time in that HUGE deal.

Hey man, Harrington may not be the best starter in the league and his rating is pretty dismal but check out the number of drops last season. If he gets the ball to the receiver it's then the receivers job to catch it, he can't control what a receiver does. Also, since he was drafted who has he had to throw the ball to? Nobody his rookie year, Rogers his 2nd year for what 2 games? 3rd year Rogers goes down again first game, Roy Williams was a great rookie but he too missed games and played half the year on a bad ankle. Az Hakim was a puke and I'm so glad they cut him. Now they have Rogers, Roy Williams, Mike Williams, Kevin Johnson, Pollard at tight end and Kevin Jones who rushed for more yards in the 2nd half of the season than any other RB. Not too shabby. Plus this year they get Boss Baily back from the DL at Linebacker, they got a GREAT safety in Kennoy Kennedy in free agency, they have one of the best D-lines in the NFL. Add to all of this the fact that they are in the hunt for Ty Law and this could be the year of the Lions. Then again they are the Lions and always figure out a way too lose. And trust me, if Harrington doesn't start out hot he will find himself on the bench beacause Mooch hasn't forgotten about how well Garcia played for him in San Fran. I agree that the north will be a battle but I SERIOUSLY feel that the Lions should and will win it this year. The Vikes without Moss just don't scare me anymore. Culpepper won't have the same numbers without Moss and Burleson isn't moss. The Packers have a pretty good offense but Green needs to learn how to hang onto the ball. They do have Favre and if you have Favre you always have a chance. The Bears are well...the Bears and will be right back at the bottom. I see it shaping up as the Lions taking first, Vikes 2nd, Pack 3rd, Bears 4th. Then again my guess is as good as the next guys.

As far as hockey and player salary goes, yeah you could make a case for the Federov (aka the Devil) and Sakic signings for large amounts of money but it was bound to happen eventually. I mean look at the other three major sports, basketball, football and baseball and you look at the WADS of money being thrown at them. I mean some of your highest paid NHL players (with a few exceptions) were making average money when compared to any other of the major sports. So while the Satan and Sakic signings didn't help, I ultimately blame the other sports organizations for the downfall of hockey. Who can blame the hockey players for wanting to get paid like other pro athletes, afterall Hockey is probably the most punishing of any of the major sports so if anyone deserves it it's the hockey players of the NHL. Just my 2 cents.
