These are awesome, where do you get such a program and how do you write the scripts? Are there any free programs for this or tutorial sites?

Whatever, I was talking about the Fractal Flame Algorithm specifically in response to your comment about "real" fractals.

I have used fractint, liked it, but I like the images you can pull with apophysis better.

Anyway, that isn't the point of this thread, let's see some more pics.

I haven't taken anything to photoshop, these are just plain old renders.

Not sure what this is, just a lot of messing around...

It's a good idea to look into things a bit before passing judgement on them.

You mean as in reading Benoit Mandelbrot's original treatise? Or the papers covering the work of Gaston Julia on complex fractal sets? Or writing code to generate the fractal sets specified in the two papers in real time? Or analysing the difference equations (note, NOT differential equations - difference equations arise from discrete mathematics) that produce such entities as the Hénon attractor? Or writing code to explore the Woodward Conjecture graphically by plotting the zeros of the complex polynomial families involved? I'd call that 'looking into things a bit'.

The reason I mentioned Fractint was simple. If you're serious about fractals, it is THE program to get. Covers (at the last count) over 50 different fractal classes, including Mandelbrot, Julia, logratihmic variants thereof, a whole swathe of polynomial and differential equation fractals (including the Lorenz Fractal), plus a highly entertaining entity called the Ant Automaton Fractal. It also allows the user to see the 3D fractal entities using perspective plots, and to look at what happens inside some of the 3D fractals by suitable choices of viewpoint ...

Oh, and you can get a Unix/Linux port of Fractint too.

If you want to try experimenting with real fractals Mgil, look up the Fractint program. It's DOS only, but VERY powerful, and allows you to tweak the fractals to your heart's content.

Actually those are "real" fractals.... google the "Fractal Flame Algorithm" for more info. From my very basic understanding of them, the images are generated using an extension of IFS, with a few changes giving the characteristic look and feel.

While you're at it, check out this pdf.

BTW megil, I like what you ended up doing with that one.

A couple (those with relatively small file sizes at high resolution) I've "made" (or really just manipulated) now:

I'm sure someone will produce a Windows version in due course. Alternatively, if you have linux, chances are someone has produced a fractal generator for Linux - Linux tends to be replete with programs of this kind (i.e., 'serious' applications) ...

In the meantime, I wrote some code in the dreaded Visual Basic to generate Julia Sets, and it worked. I also wrote a polynomial fractal generator (based upon something in mathematics called Woodward's Conjecture) but I'm still working out how to colour code it ...

A few more (ahhhh this is addictive, so much to learn :%):

My favourite so far, reminds me of a sunset at the ocean.

Anyone here good at it? I only just started. here the two pieces I consider worthy of posting. I have about a total of 17 rather simplsitc fractals. These are raw, they were not finished or anything using photoshop or other editing software

here's a fractal I made that looks like an actual fractal

well they are actual fractals just no the ones you usually see as I am not advanced enough to make those awesome patterns.

at first i thought you were talking about actual fractals... i can see how you would call it fractal art though. looks pretty good as is without touching it up in photoshop
