I'll have to jump on the bandwagon with hyundai and kia. They're both fairly new carmakers and when they first came out, they were referred to as throwaway cars. As stated above, they're getting better but not quite achieved legendary status. I personally don't think they ever will.

What is your budget/preferences/needs? (car/truck/suv/crossover/tractor trailer/tour bus)

Lexus and Scion--that's all I know.

In any case, I have to admit, the Hyundai packages do look good.

my parents had to put their car in the shop, and got a hyundai, they said it was the happiest time of their lives getting their car back.

sure they have an awesome warrenty, so when you car breaks down, its fixed. But noticed... i said WHEN, not if... the hassel having your car towed and getting a rental is a PAIN.

Not to mention, according to the laws a physics (specifically murphy's law), everything will go wrong at the worst possible time. AKA, when you have an emergancy where you have to be somewhere fast. Your car will break down, your cell-phone will be out, and you'll be in the middle of nowhere.... at night.

Honda's are VERY reliable (like said above).

My dad had an accord from 1991 to 2004 and he had over 400,000 miles on it and it still ran pretty good.

My family had Toyotas for years, took us all round Europe. Nice, reliable cars. We dont travel like that anymore, so they bought a Skoda (do you get those in the States?) which also seems to be a nice car (I can't afford the insurance to drive it) but a little less reliable than the Toyota

I agree in the long term they can be very costly aprently not a very good name for reliability and resale.

I'm not sure about the Elantra specifically, but I've heard that in general, South Korean cars (Hyundai and Kia) are not built as well as Japanese cars.

Toyota and Honda (both Japanese) are pretty much as reliable as you can get, and nearly all of their models received excellent ratings in that Consumer Reports book.

hyundai has gotten better, especially the elantra. i still don't like them myself, but if you want one they are not the worst cars but they certainly aren't the best either.
