Saw it last night

As one star wars fan to another you know damn well that I can't tell you anything about this movie until you've seen it. Suffice it to say, just by the nature of what you already know happens in this one, it was the best of the 3 "new" star wars.

I really wish Hayden Christianson didn't get this role...

Excellent, the Force is strong in this one!! Of course, I am a huge Star Wars fan so I would like it no matter what. But my husband, who isn't, enjoyed it very much also.

I'm going to see it in the iMax theater in a couple days...

Not because I like Star Wars, just because the theater is really cool.

*doesn't admit to actually falling asleep on her dads lap during SW episode I*

I, for one, was mildly disappointed. Between Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen, there was less conviction than a dead bison. Overall, the movie was good, but many of the key scenes were removed from the original script, thereby watering down what could have been an excellent movie (these included, but are not limited to; Anakin threatening the jedi council and the ACTUAL Qui Gon scene, as opposed to a mere reference to the name, which makes that segment of the movie quite confusing if you haven’t read to original screenplay). As usual, Lucas is on the cutting edge of cinematography—the CGI is excellent. However, he ruined the first three movies with two things: Jar Jar (damn you, Lucas), and worse, the midichlorian. Instead of embracing the mysticism that is the force, he offers that the life force of all things in the known universe consists of symbiotic bacteria? Ptooey to that, I say. I dunno, it just lacked the depth that ESB had, as far as tragedies run.

Other inconsistencies of the movie:

SPOILER ALERT

Technology appears far more advanced than later times. Lucas did say that, before the empire, the universe eminated beauty and peace, a mix in which civilzation could grow and prosper, but that does not explain how the TIE are so obviously inferior to the driod flyers of the TF, as they both descend from empirical roots. Nor does this help in explaining that, following the decimation of the empire and the instatement of the new republic, the mecha still appears less sophisticated than pre empire times.

The jedi are able to forsee the future, but not their own dooms. The documented jedi, despite wielding lightsaber skills enough to invoke the state of “master” and the ability to sense disturbance and danger within the hearts of others, they sit totally oblivious to order 66, and Gunray, though coming to terms with this realization before getting shot down, is unable to stop a small force of fett troopers while Obi Wann cuts down at least three fold as many at the jedi temple.

Anakin is unable to conjure Sith lightning, even before he lost his other hand. This from the “perfect being” formed solely by the midichlorian? Not to mention he looses less than gallantly to Obi Wann, who is presumed to be far lesser in force strength. And how are the two at a stalemate 18 years later, with Vader just past his prime and Kenobi as an old hermit?

Many more where that came from...

Some people have WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much time on their hands *cough*cup*cough*

A coworker of mine HATES episodes I and II and he said he kinda liked III, if that says anything. Jorge said it was good, and I plan on seeing it. Overall, the general consensus seems to be that it's worth it.

Factoid: I've seen I and II, but not the original three
