This may seem trite in comparison to the huge loss of human life in New Orleans from the hurricane, but I was really upset to hear that nearly all of the fish in the Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans have also perished.

If you've been there, you know what an incredible aquarium it was -- widely considered one of the best in the world.

I talked to the curator of the New York aquarium earlier in the week, before the massive fish deaths, and he told me that his aquarium, along with others around the world, were frantically trying to figure out ways to help.

But I guess in the end there wasn't much they could do -- resources had to go to humans, not fish, so there was no way to get in and get the fish out, and no electricity there to power the air pumps to keep them alive.

I was wondering about that, and other tanks/aquariums...but I figured not much would survive...I figured freshwater well would be gone if the sea level rose and the purity of water problem, and then of course the saltwater, from lack of salt, and everything just due to the fact of raw sewage and other nasties in the water in the area...so sad
