I'm invited to a co-workers house for the first time Fri night, there will be 7 people, and I've been asked to bring a dish to pass.

I never know what to bring...any ideas for something relatively easy that people will like?

Macaroni Salad/Potato Salad

What is being served as the rest of meal? Any idea?

If nothing else, bring dessert. Cookies from the local bakery or cheesecake or something.

EDIT- if people are going to be standing around or doing it "buffet" style.. there is always Pigs-in-a-blanket. (Mini Party franks is Pillsbury dough)<~~~ SUPER EASY and usually go fast.

bread: those pillsbury croissants take them and brush with very light layer of honey and butter while warm and sprinkle with almonds.

variation: wrap around chocolate and top the same way.

real fancy looking tastes great and takes very little time to make

Thai noodle salad. Goes with lots of things. doesn't require heating so is considerate of your hostess. Is inexpensive and easy to make. The noodles require you to boil the jug and pour the water on. virtually no cooking needed. If you are interested I can post further instrucitons.

Dave it isn't crazy. Bring a dish is a very fun and social way to do things. It fosters conversation too. My family does this too. We all bring a contribution and REALLY look forward to enjoying eachothers food. Sharing makes it a real FEAST.

Theresa enjoy it and don't worry about what to take. The suggestion of some cookies is a great one too if you are not much for the kitchen yourself. Desserts are always enjoyed and cookies are just a little treat after a filling meal... good suggestion.

In fact my work department has a bring a plate day in two day's time. Can't wait. Sharing food and talking is a wonderful thing to do. Bonding as a team. The guys are great cooks and get into it to.

One time a coworker took some lebanese bread (flat bread), hummus and tabouleh. That was really well received and she didn't have to cook! Lots of ideas. It will be a great meal I bet. Enjoy and let us know what everyone took. I LOVE FOOD! (can you tell!)

Heck Chicken Flourentine is relatively easy

Take your boneless, skinless chicken breasts, pound them a bit so they are a bit thinner (or not), place a piece of swiss cheese on each one, slice of ham, some cooked spinach, and another smaller piece of swiss (if you want). Roll it up shove a toothpick in it to hold it together, place them in a baking pan...do however many you feel like/want/have the stuffes for (usually 1/person is enough unless they are big eaters) Cover this with cream of mushroom soup 1-2 cans your choice throw it in the oven on 350* F for abt 2 hrs (heck forgot, cover it first with foil) and back till they are done...make up a batch of rice, some green beans, salad, carrots, whatever veggies you are craving and wanting, and serve fairly easy...total prep time at most 15-20 mins. I suggested this one to Lindy, and she liked it

Also if you want a quick and easy salad how about [link=frog eyed salad?]http://www.dltk-kids.com/recipesdb/view.asp?rid=251" style="COLOR: #FF1493[/link]

It usually goes over really well, and tastes wonderful

And dave this is common, and enjoyable. Great way for people to get together and the "bother" of food prep isn't only on 1 person but shared...

I can vouch for Heidi's Chicken Flourentine. I made that for the dinner Adrian's workmates came for last week. Was delish, and easy to make.

Carla's Thai style noodle salad

A no-cook dish. Considerate of your hostess because it can be served room temp or chilled. A refreshing option for a summer buffet. If kids are on the guest list I leave off the chilli
[If gluten free or vegan/vegetarian friends leave you scratching your head for options then this is a good 'un]

1 packet of rice noodles vermicelli size or wider if you like that (bean threads are good too)
1 bunch corriander (cilantro for friends in the States)
Fresh Mint (all herbs must the fresh, can't use dried)
cucumber
Spanish onion (the purple one, in America called Red Onion?)
Light soy (or normal soy sauce)
Sweet chilli sauce
Kecap Manis (sweet soy, syrupy and good dipping sauce too)
Sesame seeds

Optional from the Asian Grocery section
Works without these but be adventurous!
Black fungus (special type of mushroom for whjich there is obviously no English translation. Buy it in a packet as a dried mushroom. I feel so cosmopolitan using something called fungus. It is frilly and delightfully bouncy and crunchy, you rehydrate by soaking in boiling water, has a slightly ammonia smell when rehydrated which is normal just rinse)
Fried shallots (also in a packet from the Asian specialty store. Sprinkle over the top of the noodles before serving or they will lose their lovely crunch)
Chui Chow chilli oil (for lovers of HOT HOT HOT, drizzle over the noodles - if you dare)

BOIL AND SOAK SECTION
Boil the jug, tip over bowl containing the noodles. Soak for about 5 mins. Tip into collander.
If you are confident in the kitchen you can multi task while you do the chopping I am about to describe.

CHOPPING SECTION
Chop corriander and 1/2 bunch of mint finely.

Cucumber needs to be peeled and de-seeded. First peel then deseed. To de-seed cut lengthways and scoop out the seeds with a teaspoon. Fun wasn't it. Don't you feel like a chef using that technique? Dice the de seeded cucumber into pieces about 1/2 the size of you pinkie nail (different for everyone - meh work with me here)

Cut onion in half and lay one of the halves with the flat bit on the chopping board. As fine as you can cut across so the slices come out half moons. Stack a few of these and cut again so the pieces are nice and small. ('prolly a chefinology term for this that I don't know.)

MIXING SECTION

Mix the following;
1/3 cup light soy (smaller amount if you are using the other sort of soy)
1/4 cup kecap manis/sweet soy
sweet chilli sauce to taste
Add to the noodles

Then stir the herbs, chopped onion and cucumber through
sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds over the top just prior to serving

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

You may have to cut the noodles with your kitchen scissors if they are too loooong for dishing up easily.

If the noodles have stuck together in the collander rinse in running water again just prior to mixing the sauces through. If you still have issues add some oil. I hope not because this is a no fat recipe so far.

My apologies to anyone who is is familiar with Thai cooking and is offended at my version. I made this up by combining ingredients used in Thai cooking. As such it may or may not actually resemble anything from Siam. If your fighting fish complain don't send them after me!
